You can 'prepare' to dye in life, there are many teachings about it in buddhism. You can overcome to be afraid of dyeing. Death is not just switching off the light, there are certain experiences, a sort of process of dyeing that we can be well aware and prepared for to 'conquer it'.
To conquer it means to become aware of the illusion which was our life and not be conditioned in the next rebirth. If we conquer death we can have a wonderful rebirth or get enlightnened on the death process.
Rebirth is a sort of recycling for me, not only the elements of the material things and body gets in the cycle but also our energy and our mind potential. If our energye was good because our good actions and state of mind, our karma will be good.
p.s. sucide is very negative for one karma......

Yes, you are right, to conquer death, you only have to die but not to commit sucide.
To conquer death, you should brave to face it and understand what is it then you can find a way to overcome. What is life? Life does not mean this being process but you know what is going on and you can master you mind and your life. Life ; actually is a willing carry forward. To stop life is to stop you willing. You have a new willing, will follow your karmas to go and happenning.
This is life and this is willing.

That's it in a nutshell. You said it perfectly in one sentence. I almost conquered death by nearly dying in 1992. I wasn't supposed to live and what I saw was just amazing. I knew in my death throes that to die meant to live.

Well, there's some logic to it. I am reminded of the old Twilight Zone episode that had a very young and handsome Robert Redford as the angel of death -- or was it Death himself? Anyway, the old lady was so afraid of being hurt, she was reluctant to trust this kind, handsome young man. But he pretended he was hurt, and so her compassion inspired her to let him into her apartment. She found out he was not there to hurt her, but to give her a pleasant rest.
If Johnny Depp plays the part, I'm ready!

In some far eastern spiritual teachings, "to conquer death, you only have to die" means the artificial you (the ego) has to die, which entails stopping or closely observing your thoughts. If you are successful at doing this, you become enlightened and realize that all are one and the one is "God." They call it "dying before you die."

The only problem with death is our fear of it. After we die, there is no more fear, no more anything. Just like before you were born. So, yes... although I wouldn't use the word comquer...

When you're dead, you're just dead.
The only way we'll conquer death is through scientific advances.
