I got in a fender bender a few years ago and I was ticketed. As I recall, the ticket was for following to close or something like that, but I'm trying to figure out exactly what it was. Can anyone help?

First and easiest, check with your insurance agent.

Second, your state department of motor vehicles can provide you with a copy of your driving record.

If you rear-end someone, you will always be cited for following too closely no matter who is actually at fault for the accident.

In GA, you can get a Motor Vehicle Record that will go back up to 7 years to see what citations you have been given. Most insurers only go back 3 years when they write your policy.

Depends what happened. the charge is for what you did, not for how hard you hit. Following too close, imprudent driving, careless driving, failing to yield, reckless driving, speeding, whatever the policeman tought was appropriate and and led to the crash. If you rear-ended the other guy because "I couldn't stop in time" I guess "following too close" is an easy guess.

Basically the violation is negligent driving, with the following description:
Following too close, struck slowing, or stopped vehicle.
