Great job. You have my star. They condemn us based on the bible and ignore parts that do not agree with their desires.

The Bible and Christianity for that matter is actually the only religion where women are exalted. The Bible does show that men and women both have different roles to fulfill. The book of Proverbs says that a "virtuous woman" is worth more than rubies. Slavery in the form America and other countries practiced is horrible, but the slavery that God accepted in the Old Testament was that of an indentured servant; one that owes something to someone else. If a debt had to be paid, the "master" kindly allowed the man to pay him through labor. The Bible is VERY clear that homosexuality or Sodomy is an abomination before God. Romans 1 is clear on that.

The Holy Spirit works in our hearts to convict us whilst some thing is incorrect. this could ensue without notice or over the years. To the credit of the Southern Baptists, they did come to the tip, in the process the artwork of the Holy Spirit, that slavery became incorrect and that they have been incorrect to assist it. an identical undertaking is occurring precise now as respects homosexuality. 1000's and 1000's of Christians in all denominations, rapidly and gay, are determining that homophobia is a sin and all of the efforts in the international to justify this sin would not make it precise in the eyes of God. Will this ensue with the Southern Baptists? Will they end attempting to justify homophobia through interior guilt they experience over it? Will they pay attention to what the Holy Spirit is making an attempt to tell them or will their delight get in the way? Time will tell.

I love the first response: "No Christian is condemning slavery" ... to that, one might say "openly".
There are lots of "Christians" who still believe that blacks are of less value than whites.
Also note that the person didn't say anything about women's places or whether homosexuals should have any human rights.
The point is that Biblians place all of their trust in a particular and peculiar interpretation of a set of books chosen for a specific purpose.
These people fail to recognize that this particular collection didn't exist until they removed a number of books from the Catholic canon a mere few hundred years ago.
In fact, the Bible that was used by most of the Pilgrims and early church in the United States was that Catholic Canon, and one coming across a Bible earlier than about 1800 is likely to find the "offensive" books between these covers.
In any event, I doubt that one would have to look very hard to find "Christians" who might still advocate slavery; let alone creating strict laws prohibiting homosexuality, or even a desire to repeal certain civil rights that women and people of color enjoy.

The bible was written two thousand years ago by people who did not understand even the most basic things about the environment in which they lived.
they had no idea, for instance, what caused various weather patterns, or what caused eclipses, or what caused illnesses. that had little knowledge in the way of farming and agriculture.
The bible was a primitive attempt to explain a world that had little in the way of actual knowledge and reason. Religions are, and always have been an excellent tool to explain the unknown and to motivate, organize and rule large numbers of people.
To answer the question, you cannot trust the bible, and there is no need to anymore. Humans of today are more than capable of understanding the world they live in and can find their place in it without the ancient scribblings of tribal sand people.

I am a Wesleyan who left the Methodist church because they did not believe in slavery. I use the same Bible as a Baptist and I condemn homosexuality. Being wrong about slavery does not make homosexuality right. Poor excuse.

Okay, I am sick of this whole condemning gays argument. If you do not believe in the bible then what do you care. What, people make you cry because they tell you that gay is wrong? That is what they believe, get over yourself. If you disagree then fine, that is the beauty of being able to believe whatever you want. You are not going to change any ones mind with arguments. So, just ignore them. You only provoke anger with questions like yours. You going against what this sight was set up for. We shouldn't be spreading hate and anger. We are suppose to be answering questions and helping others. So why don't you look past your own selfish views and get with the program!!

You know even Satan can misquote the Bible.
People have been using the Bible for things that it was not meant to do for years and years.
The Word is what it is. It hasn't changed since the day that it was written and they can only get away with their slavery argument if we don't know any better.

So, you are saying that Christians cannot trust the Bible? Then why be a Christian?
If you don't like the Baptists, then go be a Methodist, or something.
Besides, being wrong about one thing (like slavery, or tax cuts) does not equate to being wrong about EVERYTHING. If that were the case, then how could we trust anyone, including you?

sodomy and it sister city were destroyed by their sexual perversion.
slavery is destroyed by it dominion perversion...here in usa civil war..it was greed that brought all of this on..and it was poverty that come forth onto the southern states,..maybe that why katrina happen?.due to sins allowance them states did?/ who knows. as for women preachers..yes..if the holy spirit empower them..let them preach for there is no respector of person over each other..the holy spirit use a willing heart..if men not lining up..GOD will use the women.use the children..use the disabled..the blind..the deaf..ect..
as for putting down this denomination..i will not sin beofre GOD and give room to satan..our duty is PRAY for their EYES in Christ to see..as well their EARS in Christ to hear.NOw..that OLD had died recently..maybe a change will come..so that penecostal and baptist will unity for the glory of GOD..will to be done on earth..as it is in heaven.

Anyone can twist anything to mean something else. Some christians still hold these views, others don't. It is just different interpretations of the same book.
