My throat, and where I swallow feels kind of strained. I've been singing today, however I did warm up. Any suggestions on what to do?

Thanks.

Give your voice a rest until it feels better... singing on a strained voice will damage your chords. The more you sing though, without straining your voice, the more endurance you'll have for singing for longer periods of time without losing any tone.

Here's a recipe for a great remedy I use when my voice is going out..

Take 2 lemons, and cut them in half. Throw all four halves (with the skins) in a pot, and let them boil for about 20 minutes on high. Stir them occasionally so they don't get stuck to the bottom.

After about 20 minutes, turn the heat off, and squeeze them into the water as much as you can. After there's no more lemon juice, you can throw the halves away.

Pick out and seeds that may have gotten in the water.

Next, pour about 6 ounces of honey into the pot (this seems like alot, but this drink should last you for several cups), and stir constantly until it is mixed well.

This should stay hot for awhile, and the lemon scent\taste is quite potent, but it will work wonders for restoring your voice. You can refrigerate the drink for using later, just heat it back up next time you need it.

Also, Halls Mentho-Lyptus cough drops are great.

Hope that helps.

Alot of singers drink a small amount of olive oil before the sing. (tablespoon or so)

Don't give up due to it. Make sure you take time to rest your voice between singings and keep up the practice of stretching your voice. Just like anything else you need to build yourself up.

Good luck!
