Someone told me he must get millions (yes, one man gets more than a million letters a year). This can't possibly be right, I know he's the Pope, but c'mon.

Millions sounds right. I couldn't find any yearly statistics but Sun, which set up the Vatican email system sized it for 100,000 emails per day and mentioned that during the 25 anniversary of the previous pope they were averaging 40,000 emails per day, many going directly to the pope's email address. If you add in all the aging faithful who still use snail mail, a million doesn't sound like much - less than 3,000 per day average.

Remember, there are almost a billion Catholics worldwide. If each one only wrote one letter, that would already be "millions". Of course, some write more than one. I personally know of people who do. So don't be jealous; just accept the facts. Pope Benedict XVI does not get millions of letters a year because he has "fans". He is not a superstar. He is the Vicar of Christ here on earth. Surely Christ would receive "millions" of letters a year, don't you think so?

Hi Scooter, I don`t know about millions that is probably exaggerated, I do know from previous reading that 800lbs of mail or 25bags arrive at the Vatican every day.
The late Pope John-Paul got more mail from young people than any other type, especially from children.
Here is a sample of some;
Dear Pope, what is it like when you die, nobody will tell me.
I just want to know because I don`t want to do it.(11yr old)
