This is for Christians only:
So do you feel that a man of God should partake in alcohol? I knew different people have different views on this.
Before I gave my life to Christ I was a very heavy beer drinker.
I made a lot of friends, and occasionally I am asked to events where beer is served.
I don't feel any conviction about have one or two, and leaving it at that. What do you feel?

No. If you were a heavy drinker and the Lord delivered you from it. Why would you want to open the door back up to alcohol.

Satan does not get anyone all at once. But he tricks you a little at a time. Telling you a little will not hurt. That's how it will come back.

People will do what they want. I have seen this to many times. My advise would be not to fellowship with alcohol.
What fellowship does light have with darkness.

Jesus changed water into wine. It even seems that Jesus drank wine on occasion (John 2:1-11; Matthew 26:29). In New Testament times, the water was not very clean. Without modern sanitation efforts, the water was often filled with bacteria, viruses, and all kinds of contaminants. The same is true in many third-world countries today. As a result, people often drank wine (or grape juice) because it was far less likely to be contaminated. In 1 Timothy 5:23, Paul was instructing Timothy to stop drinking the water (which was probably causing his stomach problems) and instead drink wine. In that day, wine was fermented (containing alcohol), but necessarily not to the degree it is today. It is incorrect to say that it was grape juice, but it is also incorrect to say that it was the same thing as the wine commonly used today. Again, Scripture does not necessarily forbid Christians from drinking beer, wine, or any other drink containing alcohol. Alcohol is not, in and of itself, tainted by sin. It is, rather, drunkenness and addiction to alcohol that a Christian must absolutely refrain from (Ephesians 5:18; 1 Corinthians 6:12).

Bad testimony before the unbelievers.
Alcohol is#1 drug problem in the USA.
Are you a part of the problem or the cure?
All things in moderation??/ Now think about that one. and then apply it to whatever.
I will tell you a little true story. I had this same conversation with another christian man and I told him that his kids would not see this as the same. He has a beer now and then, the kids smoke a joint now and then (moderation fine) ?? When the years had passed and his son finally came to the end he was a vegetable and the parents had to come and get him and take him to live with them..
They have drug rehab centers.
Alcoholics anonymous meetings
Which side of the line are you on.

Drunkenness is a sin. If you cannot control, or moderate you alcoholic intake, then you should not drink at all.

Paul also warned us to flee the very appearance of evil, so if having a beer in your hand makes people gossip about you, and thus slander Christianity, then you need to avoid it.

Paul also warned us not to do something if we know that it offends someone else (Romans 14). So if drinking a beer causes arguments with other Christians, then your friendship is more important that a beer.

But Jesus drank wine -- the gospels clearly say so -- so drinking in moderation is fine as long as you obey the guidlines listed by paul, and avoid getting drunk, or breaking any laws.

You have to be really honest with yourself about this. Can you really drink in moderation? Some people can enjoy a glass of wine with friends or a beer or two without the craving for more. If you know you’re going to want more or if alcoholism runs in your family, stay away from it altogether. If you feel that you need a drink to get to sleep or to relax, that’s a bad sign. Give it up. Or if you drink alone. But if you can really enjoy the occasional beer with friends without craving more, you’re ok.

When anything begins to take over our life or to interfere with our spiritual growth, we have to be honest about it and get it out of our lives once and for all.

Drinking Alcohol is not a sin. We are only advised to avoid it because of the harm it can cause because of drunkeness (See Proverbs 31:4-7) but it is a sin if it causes people to stumble (Romans 14:13-22) and (Matthew 18:5-6).

God Bless

keep going to the events you are talking about and watch what happens. It will not be too long when two more then you have now will be following them. You have not changed much at all. You have just slowed down FOR NOW. You MUST remove yourself from that Environment IF you drank like you said you did. Believe me, I've been there and done that many many many times BEFORE I quit Booze and Drugs. I have been Clean and Sober for nine years now, AND I DO NOT ALLOW it in my Home OR Around me. Use common sense and realize that you are just a man, NOT GOD, so you are NOT as strong as He is. There is NO such thing as Moderation as a man, ANY man is weak when it comes to temptation IF it will lead back to what he/she has done before. I would be ASHAMED to face God if I started up again because he has Loved me enough to send His ONLY Son to die for me, and there is NOTHING I can do to repay Him for that. He requires NOTHING in RETURN, BUT I Love and Respect Him enough to do the best I can to show my love for Him by being what he wants me to be, A Child of The Father, GOD who can hold my head up proud and say, He IS my Lord AND my Savior. WHO else has DIED for YOU?

I see no wrong with having a beer or two or a glass of wine or two.

We are not supposed to be Drunks though. Some people cannot drink just a few, and it is better for them to drink none.

We should respect and support them!

Good Luck and God Bless!

I think that if your an alcoholic, you should leave it alone. As you know it can, just like any other drug in excess, ruin lives. Otherwise, I don't see where a glass or two hurts anything. It mentions excess drinking in the Bible as not being a good thing But I don't recall seeing anything negative about a drink or two. Ultimately, it's on you to decide.

Right or wrong depends on a couple of different things. One would be your position in life. In Proverbs it says that it is wrong for a king to drink, lest he need to make an important decision effecting his people and he is unable to make a clear judgment. (Jaymee's Paraphrased Version). One might say that this limitation would apply to anyone that is in a position of leadership.

In the NT it says not to do something that 1) would cause another to stumble or 2) that you perceive to be sin.

If you feel no conviction and do not feel that drinking would cause another to stumble or other negative effect. Then I would say drink in moderation. You would want to monitor the effects on your self control. Self-control being a fruit of the spirit.
