It doesn't. What it says is
Gen.19

1. [26] But Lot's wife behind him looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.

Cheers :-)

What is because of the way they were living, is that God had to destroy the two cities because of the fact that He couldn't find even ten righteous people in the whole area... except for Lot, his wife and his two daughters... It's worth a read... why don't you check it for yourself and make up your own mind... The whole book is something else, as I discover and learn something (and lots of it) new and beneficial every single time that I read it! Try it and you'll see what I mean... as it's full of wisdom which enables you to go through even this life at a much more decent and peaceful pace. Galatians 5: 21, 22 would give you an idea of all I'm talking about! Nothing to sneeze at! is it?

Oh! Yes! Above me is someone (realip!) who says you should have asked about where it speaks of the truth?
Psalms 119: 160
Titus 1: 2, Hebrews 10:26; John 8: 32 (will set you free)
John 17:17 2 Timothy 2:15 and I could really give you a lot more about it if you wish!

Yes, God did turn a woman into salt in the Bible. Luke 17:32 Even Dr. Luke the Apostle said, "Remember Lot's wife." Luke said in Luke 17:30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away, and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. Remember Lot's wife. (She turned back and looked and the angels told her not to look back) Genesis 19:26 Talking about Lot's wife "but his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt." Obeying God is very important and anyone who knows the Bible knows this. I believe the Bible must be taken literally unless you have other verses to confirm a metaphor or allegory or parable. I have never found such for Lot's wife. She is a true story.

The specific chapter and verse is Genesis 19:26. It was the wife of a man named Lot who had been commanded by God to flee Sodom and not look back. His wife looked back and was thusly turned into a pillar of salt.

Genesis 19:26: "But Lot's wife looked back, and she became a *pillar* [NOT: "piller"] of salt." (NIV)

Some historians (according to a footnote in my Oxford NIV Scofield Study Bible) believe the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah are probably hidden beneath the waters of the shallow southern end of the Dead Sea. Another name of this sea is the "Salt Sea".

Lot's wife was turned into a pillar of salt when she looked back to see the destruction of Sodom & Gomorrah. This happened in the book of Genesis. Early in the book, if I remember correctly. (Can't quote chapter and verse, sorry.)
