I have heard a few different reasons for this, I am not an expert so I will just share them and you can come to your own conclusion.
Dogs eat their poop because their mothers did it when they were pups. If the poop was not cleaned up often enough, the mother would eat it in order to get rid of it and keep the area clean. Not because she liked it, but because it was the only way for her to get it out of the area the puppies slept, played and nursed.
I have also heard that they do it because of they are not getting the vitamins and such that they need.
Or that they were simply bored at some point, and it was something to do. Now it is just habit.
I, personally, lean towards believing the first reason. Mostly because I have a dog that used to eat his, and other dogs, pooh. I got him from a friend that did not clean up after the dogs when they were puppies. It makes sense to me.
Either way, it is easily corrected by cleaning it up now, right away. Take the dogs outside, if you keep them inside, on a regular basis and clean up their mess immediatly. Don't give them the opportunity.
If they are outside dogs, this will take a little more work and a little more time. Clean up each day as soon as you get home. Over time they should stop. You could also get them some toys, like the ones that they chew on and try to get the little treats out that you put in the center. That will give them something to do, that should taste a heck of a lot better than poop.
Otherwise, as mentioned above, there is stuff you can get from the vet and pet stores that makes it taste really bad. But you will still need to clean up after them as often as possible.

my dogs love cat poo for some odd reason. I don't know if this is safe but you could sprinkle some spices that they wouldn't like. Ask your vet. But I don't think that there is a real solution because dogs are just gross sometimes and there is nothing we can do about it!

Yeah! My brother's dog did the same thing! They sell tablets at most pet stores that you can either mix with their food or water. It causes their poop to have a bad taste (yeah i know, i would think poop would already taste bad - i guiess it just makes it worse! haha). But it worked for him. Just ask at any pet store where you can find it (usually by the other medications - flea, tick, etc medications) and what brand they recommend.

sure, it relatively is animal crulity. blending poo of their nutrition is merely unhappy and unwell. She curiously knows of no longer something approximately practise canines. think of what if there have been worms or different parasites in that? The vets allow you to comprehend to aviod canines eating their poo consequently! As for the birds...I had an identical difficulty. i'm unsure what to do. I merely stored my canines faraway from the ambience of it. Giving them sparkling pinapple is meant to help them locate the style revolting of poo. unsure. possibly use a kennel for outdoors till you could bypass outdoors and watch him and scold him for eating poo. coaching the "leave it" command can help with this. possibly a doggie training evaluate? desire this allows.

Pick it up before they can get to it. Try to pooper-scoop right after they go. Other than that, I think Solid Gold makes a prodct called SEP (Stop Eating Poop). I think you put it in their food.

sprinkle their food with meat tenderizer (yes, the bottled seasoning). don't overdue it. within a few days, this should discourage them. animals have a totally different sense of what appeals to them, than humans.

Its unfortunate but dogs seem to like to do that. Yuck. I like dogs, but that habit is one reason why I have cats instead.
