I am an Atheist. I am a Humanist. I am pro-life. Pro life for all people, not just the so-called rapists and murders, but for babies too. Yeah, I realize this is contradictory, but that's just me, a walking contradiction.

How sad- that someone would say, it is immoral but should still be legal- that shows me once again that being right is not the important issue , but if something is legally ok- set by man.
I agree with your statement 100%. It is not just the woman's body- she may have complications from an abortion, but the baby does not leave the clinic. About the death penalty- I agree with you as well- I do not like life being taken for whatever reason, however, even God said that the guilty
cannot go unpunished. What crime did that unborn baby do, to deserve death- Oh yeah, I know- he/she was conceived when it was not convenient. It amazes me how God has so much mercy on a culture that kills 4,000 unborn babies a day. I know why He is- because He desires ALL men to come to Him- My prayer is that one day people will come to the realization that when they have sex they have a responsibility not just themselves if a baby is conceived- but to the one who cannot speak for him or herself. God forgive us!!
To Lao Pu- not to appear nasty or judgmental but just an observance- how can you compare abortion to drinking and drugs? you are putting those things into your own body- with an abortion you are taking the life of another human being- yes a developing baby- but still a live human being- it is not just the mother's body- there are 2 heartbeats.
Buttermommy- before you judge- I agree that some children are placed in foster care, and orphanages, however being killed is not the answer- and also I have 4 people in my immediate family- 3 or us are adopted- I was adopted 48 years ago, and my husband and I have 2 adopted children.

I used to think the same way that you do.
However, I've seen a lot of lives ruined and situations unfold in terrible ways because of that type of thinking.
My current philosophy is that a baby, a child, a human, is not a fetus, but the combination of the fetus and the contribution of the caretakers of that fetus. In other words, when you see a newborn, it is a person not because it was conceived (which is the patriarchal way to look at it) but because it was nurtured to term by its mother.
So why do I oppose the death penalty? For the same reason. Someone, or many someones, created that fully-grown person by contributing to its development all along the way. With whatever investment that has been made, we have no right to take that life away because we did not create it--we did not contribute the nurturing that made a human being there.
I hope this answers your question.

OK, how about, it is her mind and her choice!
Men are not beyond feelings just because they can't experience actually carring the child in the womb. Many men along with women know the pain of losing a child at birth and it is stressful.
Even with the choice of adopting the child out to a family who cannot have one doesn't help with the mental state.
Then there is always the taxpayers who resent the tax dollars being spent on this child before and after its birth.
Wow, does anyone really know how hard a decision like this must be when there are so many circles to run around?

How many Christians are killing people in Iraq? All lives matter, including the mother's. It's her choice to decide if her life would be better after having an abortion. It's she who has to live with her choice. You have no right to make that decision for her. Until that baby is born, it has no legal rights and abortion is legal. I have never had an abortion, nor would I ever want one. But I can think of circumstances where I might make that decision. I would never take the right to decide away from any woman. And yes...it IS her body. No man has a right to dictate to her.

Jane, 16 gets pregnant and can't get an abortion. Jane has to quit school to raise her baby. Her boyfriend dumped her because he's not ready for a kid.
End result: one child living in poverty.
Jane, 16 gets pregnant and gets an abortion (assuming she wanted one). She can go on studying and follow her planned life. Later she gets a good job, meets a guy, and they found a family.
End result: 2 or 3 kids who are way better off. If you're religious, that's a coupld more souls who had entry to humanness.

I'm pro-choice not pro-abortion as there is a difference you know and I don't care if you don't like the phrase it's her body because it is her body and no one has the right to tell another what they can and cannot do with it.
I am for all legal choice and abortion happens to be one of many a woman can choose. Since I am not in her shoes, do not know the circumstance of her life then I will not judge the decision she feels she needs to make regardless of what it is.
Oh and as an fyi - I'm pro-capital punishment also.

I`m pro choice and pro death penalty...HEY, I`m not a hypocrite!!I feel that some people can`t be change or " rehabilitated". I also believe that if a child is born unwanted, what kind of quality of life will that child have. Different circumstances call for different choices....
As far as taking a pill to prevent abortion, what about the women who is carring a child without kidneys or a brain, or a child that will only live for a few minutes outside the womb?A pill does not preveny serious birth defects.

It is immoral, but I do not think that means it should necessarily be illegal. I think drinking to excess and drug use is immoral, but shouldn't be illegal either. Illegal abortions don't protect anyone, and don't stop abortions. The only thing they accomplish is punishing people for making a difficult decision. I think if you really want to help prevent abortions from occurring, you need to study what issues lead to unwanted pregnancies, and work hard to resolve them. I think education, birth control, and family planning can prevent more abortions than legislation. Finally, I do not see this as a religious issue.

The solution is simple:
Science has proven when a human is alive and dead;
It all has to do with scientific proof and when a fetus is "alive".
It's a matter of time...
You can't "kill" something that is NOT alive - a fetus, that by the scientific guidelines, is NOT alive, cannot be "terminated".
On the other hand, a fetus, that by the scientific guidelines, is alive, then attempted termination or termination of the fetus is murder.
Women should know when they are pregnant...
except is rare occasions, and on rare occasions, the unborn child would need to be aborted, for the protection of the woman.
Women have the responsibility of carrying the baby, therefore, they have the responsibility of becoming or not becoming pregnant.
There you go....................
the Simple solution !
Next ? lol

What is the point?
Nothing that a Pro Choice advocate will say could sway you into being Pro choice and nothing that you as an Anti abortionist advocate will say could sway someone like me to agree with you! It is a lost cause to continue to debate this!
To continue this is comparable to going around and around in a circle-arguing this gets us nowhere.
Abortion is here to stay, whether you like it or not.
7 of the United States protects women's rights to abortion regardless of any change in the current abortion rights law and more will be joining them at some point.
Abortion rights will never be abolished. They're here to stay.
You have no say.
