I've left 2 air freshners in his office before. They are all dried up. I know he knows he smells like cows he has to.

Have everyone in the office give you a quarter (25 cents) and then gather the money together get a big deodorant stick at Costco or Walmart or Target and put it on his desk with a note that says YOU SMELL LIKE *** or as you put it YOU SMELL LIKE SEWAGE..NOW HERE'S THE DEODORANT..WE ALL THOUGHT YOU REALLY NEED TO USE IT.
may be rude and may hurt the persons feelings but hey how else do you get it accross tp to this person if not in a harsh way you know ?
I've stood on the subway and someone smelled really bad next to me..so I kind of stuck my nose in my fingers and said...bluntly.not yelling but loud enough for everyone to hear including the "stinky guy"...um EVER HEARD OF DEODORANT ?
Rude but so what ? I May have saved a few lives from suffocating..you know ?

unless you plan on hiring him a maid, you must know that this isn't just an office smell. His smell may come from the stale air in his home, and sticks itself to him and now his office.
I suggest putting nice smelling things in your cubicle/desk area so you have something nice to smell, because there isn't really anything that will break up the scent.
Do not leave an secret note, because that's childish and would make him feel two bits tall. If you want him to be aware of this odor it is something that you would have to sit down and talk about~like adults. If don't want to talk to him, then ask a supervisor. I REPEAT: A SECRET LETTER IS STUPID AND CHILDISH. YOU'RE NOT IN MIDDLE SCHOOL YOU ARE BEING PAID FOR SERVICE. EVEN THOUGH HIS ODOR IS NOT PROFESSIONAL IT DOESN'T GIVE YOU A RIGHT TO NOT ACT LIKE A PROFESSIONAL.

Invite him for a smoke and when he is out there have your co-workers hold him down and spray him with a waterhose and someone scrub him, and so he wont be mad you should all pitch in and buy him some new clothes so he wont go back in the office all wet. Tell him this is going to keep happening until he gets his act together and starts taking baths.

I used to work with a woman like this. She was from other culture and some was hygiene, some diet.
We used to use gentle hints. Like, leave a box of Altoids on everyones desk, so she wasn't singled out.
The same thing with air freshners, a new soap "sample", etc.
Good luck.

I had a coworker like that. We'd sneak into his office and discreetly place air fresheners in there because his personal odor caused his office to smell also.
It's uncomfortable... you don't want to hurt anybodys' feelings, but who wants to have to put up with that?
Eventually a few people went to HR and asked them to speak to him to address the issue. That is HR's job, after all. Sounds like you might have to resort to that as well. :)

don't be so bloody ignorant. If she does her artwork nicely then why do you wanna reason issues? and asserting you do no longer wanna artwork with a drug addict this is only a plant that grows from the floor. coffee and Alcohol are drugs do you do them? are you a drug addict then? so which you on no account broke the regulation? and in case you probably did and that they stated as the cops on you may you be happy? there is not any room for great criminals in this international yet some thing like it truly is pathetic you rather should be somewhat extra open minded on issues.

Tell your boss or HR. If you tell your co-worker yourself or leave post it notes or toiletries, you WILL create a hostile work environment.
Get some air fresheners in your cubicle or dab your nose with droplets of peppermint oils or lavendar in the time being. It will burn but heck, better than smelling crap all day.

Give him some deodorants and air-fresheners. I pulled this on a female co-worker and it worked. She showed up clean the very next day.
Or you can leave an anonymous letter at his desk.
Or let the HR handle it.
Good luck

Make a fake email account, and send him a polite message about cleanliness in the work place. Or, you could put together a small package of soap, deodorant, and come into work realy early and leave it on his desk. If that doesn't work, then go to your supervisor, let him know that the bad hygeine of your co-worker is making it difficult for you to pay attention and do your job properly.

Hey, you are a nice guy but you smell like raw garbage.
J/K!
The best way is to either leave an annoymous note or tell Human Resources. Believe it or not, they are trained to deal with tought issues like this.
