You answered your own question. Fido will be FINE. The dog has a large space, has food and water and has potty pads-what else does she need? Companionship is necessary, yes, but for one day the dog is not going to die without you. As long as you don't mind cleaning up poop and pee when you get back as she may make a mess out of spite while you are gone.

I understand your situation. The dog doesn't like to be away from it's home and you don't want to give a stranger a key to you access to your home. Your dog may get a little lonely but will just be that much happier to see you when you return on Sunday.

Think of your dog like an eight year old kid.You might feel safe leaving him alone for an hour or two to go to the store or after school before you get home from work. But would you feel the same to leave him with no one else around for a day and a half? He can handle a couple hours alone, then he hears things, wants somebody to talk to or just watch TV with. This kid would be a basket case by the time you got back.

Leaving food and water is not enough when the dog has come rely on you for love, companionship and channel changing. You obviously care a lot for this dog or you would not be asking.

You need a sitter. It should be somebody she knows but doesn't have to be. They could stay the night Saturday or just come and check on her several times while you are gone. Do you have a family member, a friend or a friends teenager(trustable)who could stay the night for a couple bucks.

If this doesn't work for you, you should board her, with a kennel or maybe at a friends house. She will get over being left in a strange place much better than the feeling of abandonment from being left alone.

I don't mean to sound so critical but dogs are sensitive and go through most of the same emotions people do.

The only thing I wonder about is her being alone. If she is used to being alone for a day, like if you are at work. It will probably be okay. If not, it will seem like an eternity to your dog before you come home. Can leave the radio on low for human company. Is there anyone that could come and peek in on her, maybe on saturday evening and sunday morning.

If this is an older dog that has been in your family for awhile then I say Yes. She should be alright. Sometimes traveling is not a good thing. They get so upset that it takes them another week to calm down. Make sure she has something of yours to sniff and cuddle with.

Do you have a neighbor or friend that could come over and let her our a couple times? If not, check in the phone book or online for a professional pet-sitter. We had one come 3x (once at night, the next am and then in the afternoon) and it only cost about $25. That will give your dog a chance to get outside to do business and will give you peace of mind that someone is checking on her. Other than that, I would not leave my dogs that long. Even good dogs that usually are fine for several hours might freak out or get separation anxiety after that long. They could eat something or get into something that could hurt them.

Too many things could happen for my liking but, having said that, I know of vet clinics that will board a cat on a Friday with nobody being there until Monday morning. Are you sure someone could't stop by and check a few times or possibly a professional pet checker? Even boarding is not all that expensive for a weekend (less then a vet visit).

I don't see why not. I have left my dogs overnight before but I left late at night and was back early as possible the next morning. Maybe ask a neighbor to check on her like once or twice. She'll be fine!!

can't you have someone come by late at night and in the mornings at least to check on her?? Her problem will be lonliness if you can help her with that then I don't see what the problem is. Then they can check to make sure the feeders are operating and pee pads are changed.

I personally wouldn't leave mine completely alone for that long.

That all would be ok, if you at least had someone come over and take her out. Don't you have a friend? a neighbor? relative?

Our French Mastiff would REFUSE to pee in the house even if there was a mat. She'd be doubled over in pain if we did that to her, cause she would hold it.

Also, what if you are running behind schedule, something happens, and you are gone even longer? Sh.. I mean, stuff happens.

It's not a good idea to leave her by herself for that long. Why don't you have someone take her for the weekend or just drop in your house to make sure that everything is ok. Could you imagine being locked in a room for 2 days without not seeing anyone and wondering why nobody has come to see you? It's gonna be confusing for her. Good Luck

Hire someone to come in and look after teh dog. They normally dont cost that much and will stop in a couple times a day to let the dog out, play with it and feed it.
