I currently commute 15 min to work everyday and I enjoy my job. My annual salary is 50k. I got a job offer for 80k per year... but the commute is 1.5 hours (2 hrs including traffic) each way. I need to stay in the current area I'm in right now to, so I can't move. Do you think its worth it?
P.S. I live in Northern California

Followup to your questions: To extend a little on my situation... I'm 23 (as of today ;-) and I have a wife and a 6 month old daughter. I work near Lake Tahoe and the commute will be toward San Francisco. The reason the job is much more is because the demand is so much higher for this position (Financial Analyst/Decision Support). It will be in the healthcare industry so the turnover rate is much lower than others. I would like to purchase a home, and this job would help me do that within the next 3 years. At my current job it will take 6-7 more years. Thanks for all your answers so far! Much appreciated!

No way. Commuting will take away free time and will become extra work time. You'll also get more mileage on your car. The money won't make up for time and car expenses. Look for similar jobs in your area or a bit closer. You will HATE commuting and may come to resent the new job.

I've learned from experience that money is a good enticer but can quickly become not worth if it there's an aspect of the job that's unbearable.
That sounds like an unbearable commute. Though, I know someone who commutes 1.5 hours for FAR less than $80K.
Are you living comfortably on $50K. That's a lot of money for N. Carolina, no?
If you are without want where you are, I'd stay at the lower paying job.

well figure you are working 4 more hours a day with the commute so that means 20 more hours a week times 50 weeks a year is 1000 hours in your car then divide by 30000 = 30 an hour to drive your car.....and then figure your salary is the same- personally I would do it because I dont mind driving and am single but you should think about the the general happiness of the job because otherwise you will hate the commute even more.

Two hours each way (which could turn into even more if traffic gets blocked by an accident or somehing) is an awfully long commute. Realize that's increasing your effective work day by almost 50%, not to mention the added commuting expenses. This would end up leaving you very little time for yourself during the week.
Only you can decide if it's worth it, but I wouldn't take it.

Probably not, unless you can negotiate a flexible work schedule like (I'll commute 3 days out of the week etc.) . People often underestimate the power of negotiation when an employer has the "hots" for them , of course this doesn't work in every situation, but you;ll be surprised how flexible some employers can be if they really need you.

For that much, you would be most likely to move to a closer job. Even if you NEED to stay in the current area, driving 2 hours (one way?) is not worth it. You'll burn that extra $30K in no time at all.
Also, ask yourself: is this worth it? How is this going to change my life?
It sounds like the $50K job is just fine for you.

The choice....for your good health; stay put.
Should you wish to gain more opportunities
and monetary rewards you need to be mobile.
That's the options.
For the taste of life is to move with the flow of the systems
and the machinery in the advanced technological, high
aviation *** speed train era...hence; the journey is the
norm for carreer minded professionals in Europe, Asia
and North America.
May the the fruits of success be in your hands.

if the job offers security, yes it is worth it. Also, you will have to find out how stressful that job is first. Sometimes, money is not everything. I know people (my co-worker) quit for less money because of stress for corrupte department and co-workers. You have to weight that in too.
Remember, money is not everything!
