If there are over 145 million working citizens in the US, how much of a difference do illegals make?

If there are 12 million illegals in the country, of that number, all of them are most certainly not working. Therefore, how would our economy "collapse" without them?

Not a chance! They are not that important to our economy. When they protested on May 1, 2006 and 2007 - did it upset our economy? No way! It was better without them!

Actually we would be much better off WITHOUT them because of all the money that is spent on their benefits. It is estimated that taxpayer shell out over $50 BILLION each year for the illegals. They don't supply that much benefit to our economy. Besides, THEY DON'T PAY INCOME TAX!

Anyone that says a head of lettuce will cost $5 is a liar and is trying to scare people. The cost of labor is a tiny part of the actual cost.

BTW, it is impossible to only have 12 million illegal alien criminals here that are breaking our laws. That 12 million figure was the estimated for 2005. We have had MILLIONS more come in since then!!! Try 20 to 30 million. That's a closer estimate. The government stick with the lower figure because it sounds better.

I don't know if this is true - but I get tired of Dubya saying that "they are doing jobs that NO American wants to do"!!???!!!

How would he know - has he ever HAD to work a day in his life? Even now, he takes months of vacation each year - what does he know about what jobs an American would do? The arrogance and stupidity of this remark is totally amazing! No, Americans are not going to work out in the hot sun for $2.00 a day because they couldn't live on that! Slavery is over in the US, and Americans need to earn money so that they can live the American Dream - which by the way is not cheap!

He acts as if Americans make too much money, and that they don't deserve to make more money than illegal immigrants. It's as if he wants our salaries and pay to go down to meet the low income level of third world nations. What does he care-he's a rich man; too bad for the average person.

What does he know (or care) about what it costs to feed a family, or to live with the basics in this economy? He's been rich all of his life, and he hasn't got a clue. He sets the tone for this nasty debate that does not deal with issues, but emotions - but that's how the Bush Administration operates. Never on facts, just fear and other negative emotions!!

Some people probably believe that because, the work illegals do and the low pay for it, compared to the work we would do and the minimun pay or raises, would drain the economy, and would be more of a harmful thing than a beneficial thing. but thats only theory.
But, i don't really know, probably, or probably not. All i know is there isn't going to be an America without illegal's or illegal deals. So why bother trying, it'll cost millions, if not billions of dollars.

The economy would not collapse. That is just a lot more of the BS that they are handing out. Deport them all. This would bring back a living wage for the legal citizens of this country.

First do a little research on the acres of the killing fields, than the job duties involved along with the year round climate working conditions. Before just fantasizing about a desire to fill the work orders, or will someone else be doing it? And then one day realizing that you are the ones who got the raw deal. This is what came to mind last night and really since I personally will not do such a job because I had to go threw several similar ones as well as ranch work. Before my current accomplishments. It led me to wonder who are we expecting to handle the dirty strenous work when most kids only want to hip-hop,sleep late, and I can name several other thing's that this young generation considers modern day slavery.

It wouldn't collapse. We have plenty of unemployed citizens who could take the jobs which are currently being done by illegal immigrants. Not only that, our unemployed citizens would send less (if any) of their earned wages out of the country. Therefore, our economy would actually be boosted.

Every time ICE raids take place and illegals are deported, the jobs are almost always immediately replaced by American workers.

It's not that illegals are 'taking jobs Americans wont do' (which is bullcrap) it's the fact that employers are greedy and would hire illegals instead of legal citizens.

Kick them all out and let's see!!

jkjk.
Let's look at your argument: "All of them are certainly not working?" Ummmm...I don't think people came here just to chill out and spend their large amount of money they had..
I would like to trade you for a hard working illegal? Bush are you listening??
hehehe.

and dude - King T: You must be on some sort of drug if you think there were no illegal immigrants in the 70s.

It would not collapse, but it would hurt the economy. We would have to compete with countries like China for goods. And China makes things very cheap. You can get cheaper items made there, shipped by sea and in the stores, that products made in the US.

I disagree, but I suppose from their point of view, the money that these immigrants are paying for basic necessities, such as a house, food, clothing, etc. would help out certain industries, and boost the economy.
