It would hamper communication thus decreasing productivity.

Diversity in ideas is very helpful, but diversity in language is counterproductive.

People often think that if people are speaking a foreign language they are talking about them. It bothers me a little but I defend their right to do it. I lived in a foreign country for three years. Most of the people spoke at least three languages. Many of the kids spoke more. I did feel out of place at times and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't learn the main language.

What I usually tell people who complain about this is: If you were living in a foreign country and you knew the language but were with a group of Americans wouldn't you speak English because it is the language you are most familiar and comfortable with. But I believe if you are a citizen of a foreign country you should be expected to know the language of that country to the best of your ability. My grandparents spoke German and Hungarian around the house, but they also spoke English perfectly.

It is very easy to require the use of English during work time, for communication with monolingual colleagues, and another language during break time, for communication with friends. Companies that forbid this usually have morale problems with their employees.

There was once a time when children were forbidden to speak anything but English during school recess. Fortunately this ridiculous and shameful rule is a relic of the past.

it does have a huge impact. If you have two colleagues at work who converse in a language other than english it creates problems. They might get habituated and also use their native language ( other than english ) for professional ( i mean solving a problem at work )purposes also. They might not realize it because it comes naturally to them and they dont know that the people around them cannot understand what they are talking.
Also it's bad manners if you are conversing in some other language in front of your colleagues
