What do you think of this?? I started using recipes from the Foodnetwork shows - Giada, Barefoot Contessa, Michael Chiarello, Alton Brown - and my cholesterol went from 199 to 230 in one year. My HDL is very high but my LDL (bad) is high also. I seriously think it is directly related to the fact that I have been making foodnetwork recipes.

Oh for god's sake people. I know what caused it! I'm saying they are doing a disservice to their viewers by not offering healthy choices. A lot of people watch these shows and make these recipes and they are going to be the next McDonalds in terms of making America fat and unhealthy.

That may be. You can always exchange healthy choices when making their meals. Use low-fat products when you can exchange them in the recipe without effecting the recipe. Sometimes you cannot do exchanges. Milk will not whip like cream, for example. Try recipes that are more health conscious like Healthy Appetite with Ellie Krieger.

What does the Food Network have to do with anything? You can get recipes from all sorts of places, but it is your personal responsibility to eat healthy. Nowhere on the Food Network site does it say their recipes are healthy.

this may be pretty close...... 1 pound ground beef 1 1/4 teaspoons salt 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper 1/2 cup chopped onion 1/2 cup chopped bell pepper 1 egg, lightly beaten 8 ounces canned diced tomatoes with juice 1/2 cup quick-cooking oats Topping: 1/3 cup ketchup 2 tablespoons brown sugar 1 tablespoon prepared mustard Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Mix all meatloaf ingredients well and place in a baking dish. Shape into a loaf. Topping: Mix ingredients for topping and spread on loaf. Bake for 1 hour Or here is another...good luck, hope one of these works FEELING YOU OATS MEATLOAF 2 lbs. burger 2 lg. onions 2 eggs 2 c. oatmeal 1 tbsp. dry parsley 1 to 2 c. tomato sauce Salt and pepper to taste 1 lg. or 2 smaller loaves Finely chop onion, mix all ingredients, add tomato sauce to make the loaf the right consistency. Bake at 375 degrees until done. Serve this with mashed potatoes and a green vegetable. I also sometimes use crushed saltine crackers instead of the bread crumbs

Are you kidding? It's the recipes you are choosing to make!
There are plenty of healthy choice recipes on Food Network ... comparing them to McDonalds is perfect - you either choose to get the big mac or you choose to get the salad....and even then,if the salad you choose is loaded with deep-fried chicken and cheese and ranch dressing, most of us know that's not healthy no matter what you call it.
Your cholesterol level is either based on the food choices that YOU make, or you inherited it.

Well, it's not called the "Diet Food Network" for a reason...I watch all of them and they use alot of butter, garlic and other heavy ingreients. No surprise here.

I wouldn't blame FoodTV. You still made the choices of what you ate, of what you introduced into your body.
Try preparing dishes from cooks like Ellie Krieger ("Healthy Appetite") or RachaelRay ("30 Minute Meals") as both of those shows tend to have a health-conscious flair.
