Many people responded to that question and said that it was okay for Adam and Eve's family to reproduce through incest because their DNA was pure and wouldn't have caused any genetic defects.

Still, should genetic defects be our ONLY reason to avoid reproduction through inbreeding? Does it not seem wrong somehow that generations of people were forced to have sexual relationships with their parents, siblings, etc in order to maintain the human race?

They still do it in the Bible Belt.

No wonder God is so popular there.

The idea that the Genetic Code was flawless is incorrect. If our genetic code is flawless and it is what is used to create our children then our childrens Genetic code should be flawless. Flawless begets flawless. So where did the errors come in? Either the genetic code was flawless and god added the flaws later, the genetic code was not flawless to begin with, or it was changed through evolution.

If god introduced the flaws at a later time, well that just seems really mean. I don't think he is someone I would be able to worship.

If code was not flawless to begin with then that calls into question the flawlessness of God. Either he made a mistake or he put the flaws there deliberately. Either way I don't think he is someone I would be able to worship.

If the flaws happened by evolution, then you have to believe in evolution which calls the whole creation theory into question.

I have contemplated this very question, and the answer that makes sense to me is this. With the many stories included within the Bible, there still are many things about life that weren't. For example: the dinosaurs. We find their fossils all over the world, yet there's no mention of them in the Bible. So, the conclusion I drew about Adam and Eve and incest is that God created them first,(we know that), but it doesn't say that they were the ONLY people he created.

I never take an aetheist's questions about religion seriously, as they're designed to put that religion down. It's a silly question that is a waste of points to answer. Morally it is wrong to have sex with your own family members, Adam and Eve not withstanding.

Mutant rabbits, probable. @Alaric: Yeah, the Egyptians used incest to maintain the ability in the family contributors. What you disregarded is that most of the babies have been extremely deformed, or adverse in some way. they had to have a lot of youngsters in the previous one got here out ok.

Yes, genetic defects are the only viable reason to avoid it.

Beyond that, what two (more more) consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home, so long as they do not involve someone else who may not be consenting, is none of my business.

I just have to point out one thing -- "YUCK" is insufficient justification in moral considerations.

Incest is generally harmful and/or a result of harm done to one's psyche... so there's really nothing laudable about it and should be stopped.
