My daughter is getting married on Oahu in October. Can't wait, but we're putting it all together ourselves. Wedding planners charge entirely too much--they not only want a fee for themselves, but want to charge a percentage on top of everyone else's fees--why do you (wedding planner) deserve to be paid 20% to call up a photographer for me when you're already getting paid to do it? Why do you deserve 20% of the fee someone charges for 4 hours of work when it doesn't take you more than 4 minutes to make the arrangements? The owner of one estate that we considered booking said he had a wedding planner call him AFTER he had already booked the site for a wedding and ask if she could add her 20% to his booking as well!!! Maybe there's not a downturn in the wedding market in Hawaii, maybe there's a downturn in the number of people who want to get ripped off!

Ya, make five phone calls and your wedding is done. You don't need a planner

Actually wedding coordinators on Maui are a really good idea...they're very inexpensive compared to planners on the mainland, and they know who's got the best flowers, catering, etc. for the price. Weddings on Maui are so competitive that you'll find you can get fabulous quality and service for a tiny fraction of what you'd pay in your hometown.

My favorite on Maui is Aloha Maui Weddings (Fay and Chanti are the principals there, and they helped me set up my rather elaborate proposal to Melinda a couple of years ago!). We've worked with Fay and Chanti and their team for many of our customers at TheBigDay for about 5 years now, and have been very very impressed with their customer service and certainly their prices. Check them out, and please say "aloha" from Michael for me :-)

I sure would!

I don't live in HI - I have no friends in HI and If I were planning to get married in HI - as in a destination wedding - for darn tootin' I'd hire a planner.
