The same thing that happens in non- mormon weddings. Just because your mormon doesn't mean you automatically are married in the temple. You have to be worthy to go into the temple. There are normal, civil weddings that happen within the mormon church. They are the same as others.

If you are referring to a Temple wedding, then it's a little different, but we still vow the same things that others do, but we believe it is for time and eternity, not just till death do us part. We still exchange rings, sign a marriage license, wear a wedding dress- or tux if you are a guy. The ceremony is a lot the same, but the wording is different. That's about it..

Oh.. there are witnesses to the wedding also. Someone said they aren't allowed, but there are two at each one!! Also, it isn't secret, but sacred. There is a difference!

I am going to assume you mean a temple marriage. I totally understand your curiosity. I wasn't a mormon all my life, and when I was investigating the church as to whether or not to join, I asked what happend in the temple, and the missionary told me, it was a sacred experience that we don't talk about outside. Countless times the scriptures say "No unclean thing can stand before God" so the church has standards one must live by in order to be nearer to God, so that is why not everyone can enter the temple. Technically speaking, everyone CAN enter the temple, if they choose to live a certain way. As I said earlier, no unclean thing can stand before God, so we won't bring God into the impure world, that has many unclean things in it. We, as mormons, believe the temple is as close to God as we can get on this Earth, and many will not make the changes to be worthy to live in his prescence. I understand that it may not seem fair if yournot a mormon, but it's hard to explain without getting too into religion, but I hope this has cleared a few questions.

Temple ceremonies are for mormon initiates where the couple is 'sealed' for time and eternity. If the in-laws are not members, or don't have recommends, they are excluded. It's Sacred to exclude family.

Mormon chapel weddings are more civil than spiritual, and the main thrust of the bishop's message is mainly how unhappy you'll be until your sealed.

The good news is that the ceremonies are generally free.

Well, if you are referring to Temple Marriage, it is quite similar to a regular wedding, but the actual ceremony takes place within a Mormon Temple. There, instead of being married "until death do you part," couples are married "for Time and all Eternity," meaning that their marriage is sealed by God to last forever, even after they die.
Because of the sacred nature of the Temple, only those who are worthy to enter the Temple may participate in marriage ceremonies.

The couple goes into the sealing room, kneel at the altar, say their vows and are sealed for time and all eternity.

No music, no flowers, no candles, no walking down the aisle, none of that extra stuff. Just get married.

It's sacred. You can't really go into much detail. It's ashort ceremony. People can come if they are worthy. A temple is not the same as a church building. Anyone can enter a church building. Only those who are worthy can enter the temple.
