God exists only in people's imaginations, whereas the judicial system is a real and fallible system created by humans (much like religion, only more useful).

Well, you just answered the question about free will that some people on this site don't seem to understand. The fact that everyone has a choice to do good or evil is what free will is all about. People make poor choices all the time, including you. Where was God when you made your poor choices? The sentence the judge passes to a criminal has nothing to do with God even when family members give thanks for the light sentencing. As for the victim, you'd be surprised how many have been reached by the love of God at their lowest moments. When you seek God, you will find him.

You must have taken serious thoughts about giving the other cheek to be slapped and forgiveness of sins seventy times seven. Law was somewhat based on the New Testament teaching rather than the Old Testament law where justice must really be met. God is never on the side of the criminal but man can use to manipulate the teachings into something unacceptable most of the times.

What you need to first understand is that God allows PEOPLE to make their own choices in life. It's these choices that have an impact on the lives of those around us, including acts of violence and theft. As far as the criminal is concerned, if he does not repent and ask Jesus into his heart as Lord and Savior (honestly, not for show), then he will go to hell. Hell would be much worse then any prison, besides, vengeance belongs to God.

Don't expect God to jump through hoops for you and make your life all cherry. Pain, suffering, dissapointment are a part of life. Without it, you wouldn't appreciate the life God gave you. This world isn't perfect, God didn't make that way. If he did, there'd be no place or need for him. Just be thankful for what you have and for what you've received. If you wish to know where he is in the victims suffering, he's where you want him to be. Either very close to you, or very far.

you know, god is on everyones side. god is merciful.
where i live, it is common for the victims family to ask the judge to show mercy to the criminal.
granted I live in the bible belt.
as I have been the victim of a crime, I have asked the judge myself to show some mercy to the criminal.

God in reality is not on anyones side!! Good and evil are mankind's doing not Gods! All god cares about is that every living entity no matter how small or large is providing him with its energy, in other words food!! Do we as a people care if one cow in the pasture kills another cow? Of course not! All we care about is using them for food!!!

God gave mankind freewill to do as we please. We are not perfect little clones he created that can do no wrong. He gave us the free will to live our lives good or to live our lives bad. He gave us the free will to help others and harm others. It is not up to God to stop these things from happening, but when the end comes you can rest assured that He will be the final judge and jury to those who have done evil in this life.

God only cares that we serve him. Why should he care about victims or criminals. He only demands we follow him and he will forgive us. There is no crime except for not following Jesus.
