You are 100 percent right. Even many conservatives are against the wall. Bill O'Rielly put it best it sends the wrong message, it is not very practical, and like you said it just fuels anti-American sentiment caused by guys like Chavez. They act as if the area's that have wall already work. Most people just dig under them and also many places have tunnels that are dug about 50 ft deep that lead from Mexico to the USA. I call for better technology on the border that can sense break ins and more people monitoring the border.

I think you are confusing too many issues with your question.
The Berlin wall divided a single country into two countries. It did not seperate two very different countries or cultures.
As to it working, the Berlin wall was quite effective. 98% of the people who attempted to cross it were shot. That proves to be quite a deterrent.
Israel is a moot point also because the border walls there are protecting a country that the majority of the citizens in the neighboring countries do not believe has a right to exist. They have no interest in honoring the treaties that were created to form Israel.
There is nothing wrong with the US building a wall to protect the southern border as long as it is adequately guarded so that it is in fact effective.
However, there is really no point in building the wall unless the US also decides to offer huge tax incentives to multi-national companies for expanding into Mexico and creating more jobs and opportunities down there so that the citizens will want to stay there to work. The biggest problems we have with immigration from the south is the socialist governments of the southern countries. All they are doing is creating increasing poverty for their citizens - just as the former Soviet Union did. Socialist policys create poverty. Healthcare and affordable housing don't mean a thing if you have to stand in line to buy bread. Just ask the nice folks in Cuba.

I've always thought that too about the jobs. Wouldn't it be ironic, but also helping at the same time if we constructed a massive border wall? We could employ all the illegals coming across the border and they'd be building a wall to keep themselves out later. You know the illegals would work on it if they were getting paid, health care. Why not? They get those things anyways. Someone said it would be expensive. Yeah, our government would really hate to throw around a few more trillion dollars wouldn't they?

I wonder if Americans wiped out the Mexican government the people their could actually live as well as Americans? After all the country is rich with resources. But I have to wonder if the people would actually take a grasp and build and inrich their lifes, since they come to America trashing it and acting like life is a party.I think if they dont have the guts to fight for their own country they will not have the sence to better themselves anyway,And sponging of the recouces we provide.I dont believe a wall is the answer,I believe inforcing our laws are the answer,it worked for years untill corporations and liberals started getting greedy.

Both the Berlin wall and the Israel's Separation fence/wall worked Extremely well for the purpose they were constructed.
Effects on Israeli security
Israeli statistics indicate that the barrier has drastically reduced the number of Palestinian infiltrations and suicide bombings and other attacks on civilians in Israel and in Israeli settlements, and Israeli officials assert that completion of the barrier will make it even more effective in stopping these attacks[27] since "An absolute halt in terrorist activities has been noticed in the West Bank areas where the fence has been constructed"
Could it possibly work any better then -->> "An absolute halt in terrorist activities has been noticed in the West Bank areas where the fence has been constructed"

Who cares what Chavez or anyone else down there thinks? Mexico has declared war on the USA. Building a wall is the gentlest of our possible responses.

If we really wanted to stop illegal immigration we would enforce laws against those who employ them with steep fines, and make it unprofitable. The illegals come for the work and US businesses wants a surplus of labor to keep wages low, so politicians will build a useless wall to look like they are doing something without interfering with profits.

I think we should enforce our southern border the same way Mexico enforces their border with Guatemala. Maybe we should make a few exceptions and not rape women as they cross or rob people but that should be the level of enforcement

Bush is just making a stupid decision about this wall. That is just more money to spend to put us more in debt.
