Okay say some divine being appeared before you and was able to prove to you beyond any shadow of a doubt that he/she/it was the only "god" and that the only way to make it to "paradise" was to follow him/her/it, his/hers/its teachings, and live how him/her/it wanted you to live your life but you disagreed with what the deity wanted. However the only other option is eternal torment. What would you do?

This is purely hypothetical and before you answer I would like you to think in terms of both a mild disagreement with this deity and also a more powerful one where the deity's teachings go against your very moral fiber (like if Satan appeared and proved he was God.)

I find it funny how I ask a hypothetical question and yet I still get people who are wondering if I'm trying to use this argument as a way to convert people. would you feel better if I told you I'm not Christian. so no I'm not out to convert, I just want to see where people stand. That's why I left it open to be ANY deity not just the Christian God.

I'd still do what I want, because unless the deity was able to change the way my mind works, I'd eventually get used to the torture anyway.

And even if the deity did so in order to make sure my torment was truly eternal, then I still wouldn't change because I'd rather not be manipulated now if I'm just going to be forced to behave a certain way in the future.

No, you're trying to convince people that the Christian god is the right one. Its called baiting. Put it this way.... if the Christian god is real, considering how cruel he is, I'd rather be in hell than spend eternity in heaven just so that selfish megalomaniac god can think he's wonderful.

I would take etenal torment because I will not be slave to something even if it did create me and everything else. I am still a person with my own soul and I will do as I wish and face the consequence of my actions. To suffer forever on my feet is going to always be greater then serving on my knees

"What if" is not in God's Word. The Lord clearly states "what is." He tells you exactly how to live and He will put none of these problems (diseases) on you. If you disobey God, you will suffer consequences and He outlines this to all people who read His Word. He gives you one way and one way only to get out of the "wages of sin" and to escape eternal death.
That way is belief in His Son Jesus Christ.

God set all of the rules. You either accept Jesus or reject Jesus. I've already done what I would do - I've accepted Jesus and believe in what Jesus did for me.

"If God gives me some ‘sign,’ then I will believe."

The unsaved often want a "sign" from God. This is in spite of the testimony of creation, their conscience, the Bible, and the Christian. The cross is the only thing that can truly convince a sinner of the reality of who Jesus is. Once they understand that the holes in His hands and His feet are there because of their own sin, they will fall at His feet and cry, "My Lord and my God

This was already done 2000 years ago. Some believed. Some will never believe.

I'd go check myself in to the local mental hospital because I am surely in need of medicating.

I'd say bring it on [insert my favorite cuss word]!

Any god that demands worship is not worthy of worship. Any god that threatens you with hellfire and damnation is definately not the kind I'd want to follow.
