They still provide service even if not at the level of a sit-down meal. If you have an attentive server, then definitely tip - maybe 10% vs 15+. If service is bad, do what you should do any time- don't tip at all and ideally leave a note explaining why.

no because usually you have to do all the work yourself. The only service I would be getting is the person that walks the straigh line and grabs dishes, not a hard job and they get paid hourly to do so.

It's the reason that I don't like buffets, when I go out I want someone to bring me my food, otherwise I can serve myself better tasting food at home.

If you were seated by someone, if you were served water, a drink, or a plate, if a waitress asked if all was OK, then you were serviced. You ought to leave a tip...maybe 10% instead of 15%, but still leaving a tip is appropriate.

If the server came around every 10-15 min to see if we needed refills, I will tip. If I see the server long enough to be seated and get one drink, I will NOT tip. If the server asks my husband if he wants a refill, while my glass is empty and then ignores me, I will NOT tip. (He usually drinks tea, and I usually drink soda. I understand they carry the tea pitcher with them part of the time, but still!)

Yes, because they still refill your drink and clear away your dishes.
