I applied for my Canadian passport over 10 weeks ago and still haven't gotten it back. I was told 10 weeks was the max because of the recent increase in demand. I have tried calling but the phone lines are busy or disconnected. I have called my local government representative and they can't even get through on the phone. I need my passport to go on exchange for school and I need it now. Any ideas????

Call you member of parliaments office and explain the situation. He or she will be able to call the passport office to expedite it. Especially if you need it to go on an exchange. The house of commons is not sitting right now as they are on a break so you should be able to get a hold of you MP in his or hers constituency office. I've included a link below to the house of commons that has a listing of the MPs office at parliament hill and their constituency office that is located in the riding.

Good Luck

Once you mailed it in, I don't think there is much you can do to speed it up. You would have had to go travel to an office and wait all day in line to get it faster - about a month.

But, for a comparison, I mailed mine and got it back after 14 weeks. The wait at the time said 9 weeks, and they increased it to 10 many weeks after I applied. I didn't hear a thing until after 12 weeks when they mailed back my birth certificate and a receipt. When I got it, the passport was issued from Halifax, so obviously redirected as all my previously mailed applications have always been issued from the Ottawa area, same as where it was mailed to. Halifax, being the furthest possible office away from me. But, I can see where it might be the least busy office.

So now, I'm flying to Las Vegas!! :)
