program, but how do you do that. Make the picture black and white, except for the flowers..... how is that done?

Some digital cameras are capable of doing this at the time the photo is taken, such as the Canon Powershot S3 IS. (Many others have this capability, too, this is just only one I know to list).

You use a program that you make the photo black and white, then you add the color to the part of the photo that you want with the paintpart of the program and add the color.

1-Open your colored image
2-Add a Black & White Adjustment layer
3-Shut off Adjustment layer
4-On background, select the color range you want to keep- Magic Wand, Color Range etc.
5-Turn on Adjustment layer and select it
6-Paint with black over the selection, on the Adjustment layer to remove the black&white masking- Use different opacity and flow for effect
