NASA-WASHINGTON (AP) -- The peak of the next sunspot cycle is expected in late 2011 or mid-2012 -- potentially affecting airline flights, communications satellites and electrical transmissions. But forecasters can't agree on how intense it will be.

A 12-member panel charged with forecasting the solar cycle said Wednesday it is evenly split over whether the peak will be 90 sunspots or 140 sunspots.

I think yoyu mistake the idea of scientific "prediction" with biblical prophecy...

These scientific predictions are based upon years and years of observation. We know when the sunspots cycles occur, we known when hurricanes arrive, and generally we can predict how many will arrive due to comparing past years and current weather patterns... We also know that this year is the year of Brood XIII - the emergence of cicadas that have been sleeping underground for 17 years. It happens every 17 years. So, when they arrive and swarm - dont freak out and think it is a biblical plague of locusts, ok?

This is a far cry from some stone age goat herder making up stories about the End Times....

I look to the Bible for prophecy and the mentors and scientists who have proven things to be true. The Mayans said 2012. Sir Isaac Newton said 2060. Sylvia Browne said something else. But even Jesus knoweth not the day nor hour. All we can do is pray, watch for signs, see what educated mentors are researching, ask the Holy Spirit for guidance and discernment, and institute faith into our lives. Faith that God has a plan, faith that he will keep his promises and faith of a better Earth once it's all over whenever that is. For some really good mentoring, I suggest www.khouse.org. They have a great internet newsletter and Chuck Missler and group are GREAT. Read some of it and tell me I didn't find a real treasure in this man of God. Also, the blessed by God Hal Lindsay did some interesting statistics on the end times and weather and remember when he wrote "The Late, Great Planet Earth" in the 60's? What a man of God and instructed by God to use pen and paper to give us warning. If you read that book, you will find that many of his prophecies have come to fruition. Hal's weather accounts were very compelling but remember, the abolute is God and humans are very subject to error. Just keep the faith and try and make each day count.

Some things can be validly "predicted" based on past observations. This is called extrapolation. It isn't always right, but generally things follow a pattern.

As for simply predicting something out of the blue or pinpointing a date for most events, this is pretty much impossible. I believe if observations give me a reason to believe. If someone predicts my cousin will be in jail next month, I might be inclined to believe that based on past observations. If someone told me that Atlantis will rise from the ocean on May 25, 2007, I'd be disinclined to believe, given a lack of observations to back up the claim (not to mention evidence that Atlantis actually exists/ed).

"an extremely close conjunction of the Winter Solstice Sun with the crossing point of the Galactic Equator (Equator of the Milky Way) and the Ecliptic path of the Sun),"

Put another way, you just said, the conjunction of a luminous ball of plasma with an arbitrarily-defined point and its own orbit? So what?

It is highly doubtful that the Mayans had a clue about the effect of sunspots on modern technology. Also 12/21/20012 is not the Mayan end of the world, it's simply when their calendar stops.

But if you really believe in doomsday predictions, you have about 5 years to enjoy yourself.

I work in the insurance industry field. So as far as the hurricane predications goes.... I read them every year. I take notice of them. and prepare for them. But I don't always beleive that they are 100% accurate. I just prepare for the worst.

Because, it is better to be safe than sorry.

The predications are based on several different models so they just do the best that they can. It is not an exact science.

Um. Things are predicted in the past. If they happen in the future, they haven't happened yet...predictions in the future have no effect on the now.

By the way, the meteorological prediction of hurricane numbers is not given as a hard rule, if you actually read scientific journals, it's based on mathematical postulation.

who's that this international type astrologer/psychic? it relatively is extremely unethical to drop something like that on somebody and merely leave them putting. i do no longer opt to bypass judgment on human beings i don't comprehend regardless of the shown fact that it does not sound like they are helpful and doing what they are doing for the coolest of all in contact. tell your chum that the destiny is ever changing, the only genuine time is now. If this psychic had a code of ethics, they might have been waiting to delve deeper, see the place the possibility became and furnish helpful guidance to alter the direction. in the event that they could no longer see that, they does not merely proportion that information. there is not any such component as a foul horoscope. no longer something is black and white while it includes this type of component. it relatively is like saying "Your existence sucks! next!" and that may not possibly genuine for every person and there is often the thank you to go forward certainly. there is an threat that each and every person will die in a vehicle crash as a results of fact each and every person dies. What good does delivering such guidance do for a guy or woman? It has no value and basically creates worry. to respond to your final question, i does not have faith every person who instructed me something like that. i'm a psychic and on an identical time as quickly as I even have examine something undesirable in my very own taking part in cards, there became a good component to it or a fashion for it to be prevented. i might in no way grant this type of message to somebody and if I did see dying of their destiny, i might concentration on their existence fulfillment, no longer their dying. i'm careful of every person who includes me spiritually yet tries to place worry in my heart. this is not the component of having this type of contemporary.

No one is asking you to "believe" (have faith in) such predictions. They are merely best-guess estimates based on probabilities, given the available data. It is like weather forecasters saying there is a 60% chance of rain. Do you take an umbrella? Or if you take one and it doesn't rain, will you want to sue them?

If I intuitively feel it coming...like the hurricanes...I feel one is coming to my neighbourhood. Also, SOMETHING else is coming, whether it is Mayan or whatever, the spring is winding tighter and tighter, do you feel it too?
