Fastest growing religion?

Question

i believe in tolerance and having read a lot in Yahoo answers and in the media suggest islam is a backwards religion. Having done some reading, why is it the fastest growing religion when it gets so much bad media coverage?
Yvonne Ridley (captured by the taliban) is an example. Why did she convert?

"the fastest growing religion" is a nice media sound bite, but an utterly ridiculous concept. if i start a douche worship religion right now and i convince 10 people to join today, Douche worship grows by a thousand percent, making that the fastest growing religion. growth tends to be easier when you are behind. Microsoft and Walmart are not the fastest growing companies, but they are getting richer and bigger by the day, regardless.

Also, for sake of argument, let's say it is the fastest growing religion. That would have NOTHING to do with whether it is backward or not. Not saying it is. At one point multi-level marketing was among the fastest growing businesses in the US. Doesn't mean the people who participated were wise or that the business model was sound.

Its "fastest growing" because the numeric calculations do not have a way to factor out countries with Sharia law that you cannot convert unless you die.

Freedom (truly) has to involve the possibility to DISbelive as well as belive. Countries like Saudi and Iran and esp Mayasia (they require you to go before a tribunal to explain your actions) FORCE you because most everyone born there is Muslim.

so the freedom to disbelive is not there. And that is not an honest calculation of a world religion. It is the fastest enforced religion in the world,
