True, good people can make bad choices, but that does not negate the threat Islam poses on the world.

Of course not. The vast majority of Muslims are as peaceful as anyone else. Extremists of any stripe are dangerous and there are plenty of terrorists who are members of other religions, or no religion. Indeed, the last big terrorist attack in the US before 9/11 was perpetrated by a professed Christian (Timothy McVeigh, who is also occasionally reported to be agnostic, but did practice Catholicism for a large part of his life).

The fact that Islam is the dominant religion in a particularly volatile part of the world doesn't necessarily mean that Islam is an inherently violent religion.

I do think that there is one issue that makes it a bit easier for extremists to justify their (politically-based) terrorism with a religious gloss, though, and that is the fact that Islam IS politically oriented in at least some respects. Muhammad was not just a religious leader, but also a political one. This is not to say that Islam *must* be political, simply that it is an aspect that provides a bit of justification when terrorists twist it to suit their needs.

This is a great question! Worldwide, muslims in general do not believe in the current jihad and don't condone the terrorism. The arabic muslims are very different in a lot of ways. The are a culture living in the past. Their heritage is that of some really wonderous empires that defined humanity and truly affected the course of human civilization in a global sense. That has been lost. They have been relegated to second or third world nothings and feel deeply disresepcted by the West's lack of respect for their long and noble history. This feeling and the hradships of their current existence makes them an easy target for dictators and radicals that promise relief in the form of Armageddon. I don't think that most of them want terrorism, but I don't think a lot of them see any choice. I think that these people are trapped in a glorious past and see little way to reclaim that in the future. It saddens me. As for Islam as a whole and muslims in general, I think they are people, just like me. And I don't think they are all terrorists.

there are two types of people in the world, the good and the bad! every country has those and every race and every religion...i also have muslim friends, some of them very close friends, but terrorists?? No , just because there is a disagreement or a conflict between lets say a muslim country and America (or any other country that is not a muslim state) this doesnt mean that they are terrorists. they are human, people with feelings like you and me.

I've never met a Muslim terrorist. I know that statistically, most Muslims are NOT terrorists. However, I also know that statistically, most terrorists are fundamental Muslims.

What can I conclude about this? I have no idea. It seems that there are radical elements in every group on the planet, but for some reason the combination of extremism with the faith of Islam seems to have created a monster.

Because of the extremist few, all Muslims have been given a terrorists label. It's the same as saying Hitler was a Christian so all Christians are vicious murderers.

It is stupid either way but people, for some reason, seem to need a "group" to hate. Muslims are the current group. Well. right after the homosexuals anyhow.

At the end of the day when terrorism is done in the name of allah, I quite reasonably assume that the terrorist is muslim.

What I do NOT assume is that a muslim is a terrorist.

Some of my friends at school and in scouts were muslim. They were just average people with religious beliefs, not really any different from christians. The only issue I had with them was the way they were all convinced that women were inferior. Even one of my friend's sister believed this was true.

In every faith = in every religion = there are those bad apples that ruin it for the rest of us. Those over the top zealots who go completely overboard in the name of God.

I believe that most Muslims are kind, good hearted, gentle people that love their God.

I have met a few muslims and they didn't terrorize me, however, I DID think about the terrorists while in there presence. I think that some people (not necessesarily meaning to) stereotype them because of what has gone on over the last several years and that is a shame.

I try to keep my mind open and tolerant and not be quick to judge based on the fact that one may be of the Muslim faith.

There will always be the extremists in every Religion...but that sure doesn't make the rest of them bad...this people are the ones who have to deal with what others might say about them...they are the ones who have to deal with what others of their faiths have done in society that is bad...I am afraid there will always be these people.
I have met several Muslims here that are very nice, and they are very much against violence and terrorism

Given what has happend I think we shy away from Muslims. Because we are upset. However, we need to realize that it wasn't every muslim. It's the same for every other religion or ethnicity. There are bad apples in every race or religion. I have no problem with anyone unless they cross the line.

I work as a security guard at a state funded employment agency and it's in the middle of an area that is largely African American,Hindu ,and Muslim. No,they are not terrorists. They are hard working decent people.
