You have to admit, even though in the depth of your thoughts you know there is no creator, religion gives so much. Afterlife of eternal happiness does sound good even though I have no idea of how it works. But lets just say that it's possible that it does work.

If god (a god, any god, it doesn't matter for this purpose) appears before you, would you be happy with that?

I was. That's why I'm not an atheist any more. But I'd give up my gods if I had conclusive proof of another and could live a life of service that didn't involve degrading myself.

Sure, it sounds good. So does getting 10 million dollars a year for doing nothing at all. But it's not likely to happen. And why sit on the couch all day hoping it will when I could be out working instead? Or just enjoying the only life I'll probably get? Why spend any of my time on a god that most likely doesn't exist?

If a god appeared in front of me and broke a few physical laws in my presence, then yes, at the very least I'd have to admit that there was something weird going on.

Hi, it seems like a good question... would I be happy if a god (any god) appeared before me? I would be very skeptical, but how I would feel depends on what it would say.

If it said, "You can ask me anything and I'll give the right answer as I am omniscient (I know everything" I would be very happy.

If it said, "You don't actually cease to exist when you die, you go somewhere better (somewhere perfect, even) and will exist there for eternity" I would be happy.

If it said, "I am going to see to it that everyone who has ever done something wrong will be brought to justice" I would be happy to think that all the evil acts of terrible people like Hitler, Bush, the wife-beaters and child-molesters would be punished for the things they did that were wrong, but I'd also feel a bit nervous about the punishment coming to me.

If it said, "I will forgive you and not punish you if you ask me to" I would think, "What's the point of saying you will bring justice if you are simply going to forgive anyone who asks for it?"

Of course, religions have aspects that are very appealing to people, otherwise no one would accept them. However, just because some of the things religions say are appealing doesn't make them true.

Eternal life is not something I want.

"If god (a god, any god, it doesn't matter for this purpose) appears before you, would you be happy with that?"

Yes but only if it was a Norse deity. Then I would definately go back to being an Asatruar, and I would be happy because I did really enjoy and love Asatru.

I would not be happy if the Christian god showed up, because that would mean for me to take the moral high ground I'd have to join forces with the devil because the Christian god is pure evil.

why waste my energy ! I would end up in a mental institution if some God would appear in front of me!
and as far as the afterlife and such , I think I don't like to be lied to ! so there is no God , there is no devil, there is no afterlife , but there is life - and life is what makes me happy - right here , right now! my family , my son , my pets , my friends my travels - I have so much to be thankful for , why waste time with something that doesn't exist???
and when I die I am done ,and then it is time for another person to experience life and be happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would want my god to have designed Heaven and Hell after careful consultation of good, decent people through exstensive focus group research.

Heaven: For good, decent folk. All fun and no work. Golf, football, sex, basically a massive entertainment complex where everybody is beautiful and healthy. No prayer/belief required for entry.

Hell: For the rest. They don't get tortured or anything, but they see the rest of us having fun in heaven. If they plead really really hard and promise to be good, they can be let into Heaven but they get kicked out at the first sign of spoiling the fun for everyone else. They also have the option to die and rest in peace.

Not particularly. While I would be happy to find that my consciousness survived my death (at least initially - the long term aspects of eternity raise other issues), I would not be happy to find that the afterlife is run by a god. I would want either a democracy or an anarchy.

no because I wouldn't want anything to do with the "god" given all the terrible things in the world. If a god does exist and has allowed children to be abused etc etc..then I would stand before him and say NO GOD! NO!..you can fcuking do one!!

I would be fine with a God appearing to me directly, as long as he did so to everyone.

That would make things quite a bit easier, and would probably end war and religious bigotry.

However, he doesn't do that, therefore prolonging suffering on this earth, and dictating that millions and millions of people will be confused about his will or existence and end up in hell.

That or he doesn't exist, which makes a little more sense.

The point isn't that your stories of an ever-loving God and eternal life aren't beautiful.

The point is that they simply aren't true.

Science has given us far simpler explanations for how we got here, why complicate things unncessarily with religion?
