I can't square up the idea of 'a loving god', with the actions of the God--mainly OT--God. Especially as told in the book of Solomon. King David takes the census the wrong way and punishment follows. Here are some other strange actions of God.

What I can't understand is why were THE PEOPLE strickin with the plague as punishment for king David's 'crime', and King David WASN'T PUNISHED at all. The subjects of the king only answered the census takers questions in obedience to the king's orders. Here are some other strange actions of God.

Hmm.."kind and loving"...is that the same god who sent plagues and floods, was wrathful, created a hell for beings he created in his likeness where they could burn for eternity...and in modern times turns a deaf ear to the sick, acts like an absentee parent, in times of disaster seems to have gone awol, etc....yes, the ot god was vicious...nowadays god is just not there...he's the invisible man in the sky, an imaginary "friend," a favorite stuffed animal....one could say that the modern god might even be loving compared to the god of the ot (tho I would prefer the use of "benign"), but this loving god is in the same category as the tooth fairy, santa claus, and the easter bunny.

You are not alone in your inability to understand...and the most honest answer you will get is that god cannot be known or understood in human terms (which is not to say god exists).

Apparently God went through rehab after the OT.

By the NT, he was all mellowed out, and decided to stop all the smiting.

Now he's all about peace and love (well, at least he is - his followers? That's another story.)

Salute !!!

GOOOOD God has no right to punish someone for his past deeds. We change in every second.

Soooo, he can punish only the last person we turn out to be at the moment of death.... Certainly.....I am sure about it.. HA HA HA HA

That is just the history told in the Bible. That is the perception of whoever wrote it. That wasn't 'God'.

No rational person can square the concept of their god being loving

Look at the answer above me, see what I mean ?

It makes no sense
