Not accepting heroic measures is a personal choice. A choice she or her family took before she got so sick. It sounds inhuman letting a person die of dehydration, and we could spend months discussing the validity of this decision, but ultimately there's not much you can do but comfort her and make her feel loved and accompanied.

I'm assuming that her illness is untreatable and terminal within a few weeks? I'm also assuming that the doctors (with her consent before she became so ill) discussed hospice/palliative care with Glennis. My mother died in hospce under similar circumstances, but never described discomfort of any kind EXCEPT the one time over that two weeks that a well-meaning family member (me) fed her. This actually did cause pain, as her systems had already begun the quite normal death process of shutting down.
Please accept my sympathy for your upcoming loss and the grief that I know this is causing you. this kind of dying can be the kindest as the ill person and the family can be together in a meaningful way right up until the end.....

Her family needs to talk to the doctor and advocate for her wishes. There is no reason not to give her water if she wants it. ANYWAY maybe she can't swallow and they're not giving her fluids by mouth because of this. I suspect there may be information you don't have or aren't giving us -- they should be giving her morphine for her discomfort.

well, short of shooting her in the head, or giving her a massive over dose of drugs, denying food and fluids is the quickest way to end her suffering....what would you suggest?

Maybe she has a living will and those are her wishes.
