Avocado pit is huge. Any good use of it?

Can it be eaten? Can you grow a tree?

i like avocado as well, you can plant a tree. you take three toothpicks insert them into the sides of it and submerse into water. using a cup to hold the pit. put the toothpicks so that it looks like a triangle. you put the stem of the pit into the water. after a few weeks you will see the pit separate and a stem will come up and roots will grow . once the leaves start to grow then you pinch the branch so that it will seperate into two. once that is done then you plant into soil.....i have alot of them growing in my house....kat

I have about 6-8 Avocado trees growing in my garden and a couple smaller ones started from last year.
A friend of mine living in Indiana first showed me a long time ago how to do it, (now he has his kids doing it for a hobby).
He jams three to four toothpicks into the seed and then places it on the rim of a glass filled with water and on the windowsill,(needs plenty of sun) and then watches it get roots, changing or adding water occasionally.
Another way is to jam the seed halfway into some soil, and it will also start that way,( pointed end up in both cases).

It helps to live in a subtropical climate like Florida or, better still, California. If you don't have any land, you can always go to a park or a hillside and plant it, or at least give it to someone as a present. It will thrive.
But nothing more than a hobby houseplant in a cold place like Indiana, as it dies before it gets too big, or if you forget to water it.

Many people leave it in with the cut up or mashed avacado or guacamole. For some reason it prevents the avacado from turning brown as does lemon or lime juice. And I'm pretty sure you can grow a plant from the pit.

Yes! Whack it with a knife to slightly split it. Then plant it. They can be grown indoors to start, with moderate sunlight, in a pot with normal potting soil. You have to whack it though so the soil nutrients can get in.

We have a mango tree and an avocado one growing right now.

you can grow it in your window seal put three tooth picks half way into the pit in the middle and rest it in a glass of water change the water when it gets cloudy. soon it will sprout roots out of the bottom half that is in the water. it is fun to watch them grow.

you can collect them and make beads out of them by carving into them..
