Letters to the editor are readers personal opinions, and as such, as the old saying goes, are worth about 2 cents. lol
The paper will also print your letter, if properly worded. (Or at least it should) Carefully compose your letter, without ranting, stating the rights of all parents to announce the birth of their child. Pick some of the best statements made here too. Just make sure not to lower yourself to the level of the newspaper writer's status. Remain well above it.

I try not to condemn people based on what there own belief system tells them, but some people are pretty freakin close-minded. They have to wake up and realize that there are dozens of religions out there that have different teachings, and not all of them believe the same things.
I personally do not follow Catholicism simply because it says that birth control is wrong. I'll take it if I damn well please if I'm not ready or in a position to have a child!
I'm sorry but in this day in age, birth control is a very necessary thing! To me that states that Catholicism condones 14 year old girls having babies, so long as they don't use birth control. Of course the church would say they are going to hell anyway because they had sex before marriage, bu things just aren't like that these days. Wake up and smell the coffee.

That's not right. A baby is a blessing no matter what circumstances it was born under. And a newspaper's announcement section is to announce social news, also regardless of the circumstances. This guy is clueless.
If you feel that strongly about it, you should put together an intelligent response in your own "View Point" and submit it to the paper. I'm sure there are plenty of others who will agree with you. Good luck.

I am a single mom of 2 kids and both times I had their births announced. They are my pride and joy and I wanted the whole world to know that so forget what anyone else thinks you do what is right. There are alot of single parents these days. I'm not proud of that fact but I would never change it either because then I wouldn't have my kids.

Whoever wrote that needs slapping in the face, as does the editor of the newspaper for allowing such things to be printed! I've been with my partner almost 7 years, and were expecting our third child in a few weeks. We are not married, nor to we intend on getting married! And people who say you should be married to have children get right on my t*ts!! Who are they to enforce their beliefs on other people?! As a long as a child has a safe, warm and loving environment to grow up in, shouldn't that be all that matters? Not that it's parents are married or not!!!!

It's sad like people avoid to do the difference between islam and extremist islamists. When an unwanted baby is born in a familly that has islam belief, the mother is taking care of him or her like in america. Maybe the familly is not happy, but once again, it can be the same in other countries. No, they won't burn the woman and baby alive and put the dead bodies in acid to clean the shame they got. This is done in some parts of the world where people believe in something that they believe to be islam but wich is not.

I dont think it is a stupid topic to discuss at all. The writer of the article is an @$$ and shouldn't say anything if he cant say anthing nice. I know that sounds cheesy but whatever. I am a mother of an "unwed" child and another "unwed" child on the way. Both by the same father, we have been together for six years. Personally anyone who doesn't like it can shove it because I dont live my life for anyone but me.

A couple who aren't married have an equal right to celebrate the the birth of thier baby as any married couple.
It's not like the baby came from space.
Came from a woman, just the same.
