They usually explain it by use of some kind of analogy:
"Wouldn't you warn someone if you saw a car speeding towards them?"
Course... they fail to mention that it's an imaginary car.

I understand your irritation. Some christians are a little overzealous in their faith. I am a Christian too, but don't consider myself an extremist harrassing people to convert. However, try not to get angry with them. Christianity is a wonderful life to live. We have extraordinary peace and hope that it seems many without Christ are lacking. If someone is trying to "convert" you it's maybe just because they like you and want you to have the wonderful gift that they have. That's the way I see it. I have talked to people about my faith....not being pushy.....just talked, but it's usually people that are hurting and need the peace that I have. When someone comes to me with a problem that doesn't know God or isn't a Christian, then I will share with them because they can normally find the answers they are looking for in God and most appreciate that....even if they don't believe. There are those that are judging (wrongly, I must add) and those that just want you to find the security/peace that we have as Christians. So, try to look at it as someone wanting to share a special gift with you thinking maybe you might decide you want it instead of someone trying to force their beliefs on you.

I may well be one you class as an extremist. When talking with people about Jesus, the first thing I always ask is what they believe in and why. I take time to listen to them, to try to understand how they see the world. I will then share my beliefs with them, and if they tell me to shut up then I do. But why bother? Because I believe I have something so great I want to share it with others. But I understand and accept others disagree which is why I always seek the persons permission first. I am not after converting anyone only God can do that I am simply sharing my faith based on permission sought and mutual respect.

Well the reasons why we spread the Gospel is because Jesus told us to, and because the world needs it. If the world were not evil, then Jesus wouldnt have had to come. God is not pleased with other religions and I think we have to worry more about what he thinks than what others think.
The "Christians" you speak of that sit back and lead selfish lives DONT care what Scripture says about spreading the Gospel, DONT care about other peoples eternities, DONT have a problem with how evil the world is because their hearts are more focused on worldly things than Heavenly things. These people are both celebrated by the world for their love of it, and also mocked by the world for being hypocrites of their own faith.

Because if I truly believe that Jesus is the only path, and those who don't follow Him are going to go to hell, a place of eternal suffering, I am not acting in love to ignore all the other people who don't believe. They at least deserve to hear the truth and make a choice.
You have to put yourself in another's shoes to understand. I fully believe this is true. How can you ask "why would you bother trying to convert people?" I ask, How can I not? My Bible teaches love. Is it loving to allow you to remain ignorant and go to hell? Or is it more loving to tell you about my Savior? You're annoyed because from your point of view, this is not true. If I believe something though, I have to act on it, otherwise, I'm a jerk. If you're about to be run down by a bus, do you want me to just watch? Or should I make an effort to warn you or tackle you out of the way?

I am not a christian extremist, HOWEVER, I was raised around many. So I can tell you why.
Many of them are taught from childhoon, it is their duty to save lost souls, and if they do not, they are not following God. In their eyes, they truly believe, I mean hard core believe, that they must continue to push it on people, and not let up, because Satan is working against them.
It is so engrained into them, they see no other way. Thats why they do it. I wish they knew Jesus himself said, make the offer, and than leave in alone (not word for word of course, but you get the idea)

I think it's because we are told to "spred the seed of knowledge" about Jesus Christ, our Savior. Some people just don't know when to back off. We're not supposed to push, because God teaches us that we all have a will of our own and we're NOT supposed to judge. But the bible says that we "get points" (not the exact wording) for converting someone and some just take it too far. I do apologize for that. I am a proud Christian who loves and follows my Creator, but even He says to be wary of those who come in His name. So from a true Christian, I apologize for my misguided sisters and brothers. We are supposed to try, but we're not supposed to take it beyond a firm "no".

I agree with you about zealots, and I'm a Christian. But what I find difficult to swallow is that are countries who are ruled by a religion in which it is okay to stone people, cut off their hands, force women to be covered head to toe, etc. And yet, Christians are being persecuted for something as simple as words. Doesn't that seem strange to anyone else, or is it just me?

Probably for the same reason atheistic "know-it-alls" can't leave us Christians alone. It's human nature to want to be right. Unfortunately, many Christians witness not because they are genuinely concerned for peoples' souls, but because they want to be right and win the argument. But try to understand it from our perspective: We believe that whoever dies in their sins will be condemned to Hell. How can we not tell people about this?

One of the Christian's duties is to evangalize and bring people to the Lord. Some Christian just do not understand how to approach people and they try to shove Christianity down non-Christians throats, which is the wrong way to bring people to God. It is important for Christians to "Share" the Word of God and tell people who Jesus was.
I am a Christian and if my brother believed in something else I would do everything I can to bring him to the Lord because I love him.
