What if god was the devil

Interesting question! I used to ask how do we know the bible is not written by Satan and so by following it we are actually condemning our selves to hell?

Back to the question! I think most people would assume the world would be an dark place filled with pain and suffering and can you not argue that it currently is? I mean what glimmer of good does exist in the world is over shadowed by pain and suffering but most are not aware of it and well ignorance is bliss. But I digress. If Satan won how would we even know? He did not stat the war just because he did it because he refused to bend knee to another creation of god. God was angered by this and if I remember tries to expel Satan who takes 1/3rd of the heavenly host and rebels against god. We are told that Satan loses. But then again if Satan won he would then be god and we would get a perverted version of the truth that we assume means the orgional god was the victor. I do not really see Satan going out of his way to destroy man but would instead move on to his own thing and make his own creations and just leave man in some distant part of the universe to suffer and do as it will. So what we could end up having is life as we know it now. No divine interventions no supernatural events happening just existing as we do now.

That is my thought on the whole thing. But who knows! It is still a fun question

Considering the confusion in religion it seems likely that most of the human race does indeed worship at the alter of evil. A man lived several years ago and attempted to help us understand God. That is the Spirit that Created all things. He was met with hostility but a few believed and today many believe and even many times more claim to believe. However considering what happens on the earth even from the works of those who think they are doing good, seems like the evil one is still boss.

Ok First I want you to know something about preexentance. We were all spirit children and to become like God we had to gain a body and learn how to judge for ourselves between right and wrong. The devil wanted to have all people return to heaven but in his plan he would retain the glory. In Jesus plan God retains the Glory and every one shares in the glory that is found worthy in the end by following all the rules set down by God. However as it is our choice many will not make it. There was a war in heaven and the earth was made, the devil and one third who sided with him were cast down to earth and remain here as spirits even now. So the Devil is in a way God of this earth. The war for souls continues with yours and mine and all that have lived upon this earth. The choice we make here will depend upon where we reside in the end. Some who have body will chose to be subject to the devil others to God They both give us reasons to be on their side, all the laws in the bible show how to get back to God. However many of the misconseptions are there because of the devil working on people to change and show misrepresentations on the word of the lord. Like the Jews who will not except Jesus as savior even though the bible clearly states he was coming and has came. Also the prophets of the devil who preach half truths and little deceptions to turn away the hearts and minds of the true word of the Lord. No the battle is not over and in truth if you dont like being a slave I would be very carefull as who you side with in this war. For one I try to teach the truth of God, Jesus, and the holy Ghost. with the Gate to heaven babtism and repentance with the nerrow path we all have to follow by holding on to the iron rod which is the word of God.

I have actually thought about this myself. On the one hand, you have a being that says drink the BLOOD of my son and grovel at my feet and do everything I say, exactly, or I'll toss you into a lake of fire to burn for all eternity (muhahahah).

On the other, you have a guy that says do whatever feels good and don't take crap from anyone. *ponder*

Addendum: C'mon guys... the asker clearly stated this is a hypothetical situation.., Being an atheist doesn't mean you can't contemplate hypothetical situations for fun (although it appears some have put this restriction on themselves). That's what make-believe is all about, or have you forgotten how to have fun during your quest for knowledge? If that's the case, then I think it's time to take a step back and consider what's really important in life.

I'll have to give two answers --
1 If God created everything and is part of everything he created and/or everything he created is part of him; then he always was the devil.
2 The Gnostic gospels posit the true god is unknowable and the god who created the world is evil and wishes to keep us removed from the unknowable god.

An interesting idea, but like the "Matrix" analogies, this is a philosophical non-starter. The real answer is another question, "Does it matter?" The answer to that one is "No, there is no way to verify either claim, so it's pointless to wonder about." Just like the idea of being "In the Matrix" there is nothing anyone could do about it, so it's a moot question.

Being an atheist and I believe in no supernatural deities, whether they represent good or evil.

I would have to say there is no Devil.

So I can't see how an atheist can offer a view point on this question.

Ah, but God is the Devil to the Devil. What does the devil do? Torment. And who is the devil's tormentor? Christ. :-)

The Bible does not require strict rules. It's all about Grace, baby. Grace alone.
