It's interesting that such interpretive phrases are the common language of religious experience.
Sometimes, it's like trying to nail jello to the wall. I don't know if they are intentionally slippery, or if it's just the nature of the beast.

This question is sound, so a sound answer is needed. Have you ever opened a can of goods or a bottle of liquid? I think you have. Notice in all cases a matter comes out. To open our heart to God means something must come out of us. The answer is this, truth is in our hearts and only Truth must come out to God. For an examples read Exodus 32:30-33, Judges 16:17-18, and Luke 18:13. What you are looking for is their Truth coming out of their mouths, and if you see their Truth, then their hearts are opened to God. When we speak our Truth, then our hearts are opened to God. I hope this helps you understand.

The bible speaks of a believer as being Saved. In the old testament, this was also referred to as "sanctification". The idea is that when we accept God, we turn away from the things of God, BUT we also "turn towards God". The idea of opening your heart to God is interpreted on two levels. First of all, the believer is expected to become "godlike". That is we study God and stay in such close fellowship with him that while we aren't God, we DO have an idea of what he would want us to do in most situations. We are to be "renewed" in his image. Second, You can think of your heart as God's "easel" on which he wants to design a purpose for your life. Opening your heart to him means to yield so that he can accomplish his design for your life. As a minister, I can tell you quite confidently that it has been my experience through the years that the most miserable people in the world are generally NOT unbelievers, but Christians who are out of fellowship with God.

Opening your heart to God doesn't translate to "Just believe." It means don't dismiss God as a myth, but keep your heart open to the possibility that He is real. Once you do that,God will give you all the proof you need.

First of all, HEART in this case is a spiritual term, not a physical one.
God is Spirit and therefore we can only communicate and understand Him on the spiritual level. When the Bible talks about the heart it means the seat of a person's will, his inmost being, who he is.

Man naturally lives in rebellion against God, because of his proud, independent, sinful nature. So, if a person decides to open his heart to God, he decides to open himself to a relationship with God.
He acknowledges his rebellion against God and asks God to come into his life, point out and clean up the mess of that person's life, and then live in friendship with and obedience to God.
Opening your heart to God is the start of allowing God into your life and a willingness to learn about Him and listen to Him.
Letting God into your heart means letting Him take control of your life. That sounds kind of scary, until you learn that all God's purposes for your life are always for good and that He loves you immensely.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

I hope these 2 verses can help you to understand the meaning of it:

2 Corinthians 5
7We live by faith, not by sight.

Luke 17
20Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, "The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, 21nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is,' because the kingdom of God is within you."

To me, accepting God in your heart is trusting that He will be with you at all times if you let him in (yes, it translates to "believe") and if you follow his commandments.

Suppose God had no eyes, ears, or any way to know what happend on earth. Would you share yours with him? Also would you want The Spirit to live with you all the time so you could consult him at any time. Would you want him telling you when what you were about to do is a good idea or a bad one. Be nice to Christians. God is watching.

Sounds like your heart is already open, E! It means to allow Him to speak to your heart and guide you. Of course, for this to happen, you must believe He exists. But it just doesn't stop there. It also means to love and obey Him, and to endeavor to serve Him all of your life. Let me tell you, it's a joy.
