I have been looking at informal wedding dresses online, and it didn't occur to me that I could also look at formal bridesmaid dresses until someone suggested it.

Does anyone know of any cons of doing this? I'm not worried about deviating from the norm.

Here is an example of an informal wedding dress I am considering:

and a bridesmaid dress I found that I like:

Geez, I couldn't see a big difference between these dresses! They both looked like pretty wedding dresses to me. Pick a dress that you love, and that makes you feel beautiful. It doesn't matter where you find it, or what it's label says. You want something unique enough so that no one wore it for prom, but you can find gorgeous gowns in formal wear that could be used too. One of the benefits of wedding and bridesmaid gowns is that they can be custom ordered, but a really good formal wear store will have a dressmaker for custom fitting and may be able to order other dresses in your size too. Being labeled as a wedding gown seems to add $ to the price for some odd reason, although some white formal wear gowns are spectaculor and can cost less.

When you add your flowers and everyone is looking at you, it will be absolutely clear who the bride is! No one will ever know if your gown was found on a bridal, bridesmaid or formal wear rack. If your bridesmaids or maid of honor wears a short dress, your gown will be set-off even more.

Congratulations! Have a wonderful wedding day.

I see where you are going with this and like that you are trying to match your dress with the MOH and bridesmaids, but personally I like wedding dress #1 and MOH/bridesmaids dress #2. I really don't think you need to match the bridesmaids as long as THEY all match. I would be leery, also, of ordering anything from one the "china" websites. I just don't trust it. That is the other reason why I like MOH/bridesmaids dress #2 option. Just my opinion. Good luck and congratulations!

Those are both very pretty dresses. I think I like the first one best, though.
My dress (27 years ago) was a bridesmaid dress. My colors were burgundy and pink, and my dress was floor length burgundy and had a big floppy burgundy hat. All the bridesmaids and the flower girl wore pink.
It's your day. There's nothing that says you have to hold with tradition.

yes the dress is perfectly acceptable for a day wedding I am a wedding planner and this dress is very nice I think it would be nice for you to be able to save some money i am sure this dress is a lot less expensive than a wedding dress, if you look at the informal dress that you picked the bridesmade dress is very similiar i dont see any cons and what does it matter what everyone else thinks it is your day and i say go for it

Why not? The bride's maid dress looked like a wedding dress to me! You can't even tell. I don't see any cons to wearing that dress over the bridal gown, or pros to the bridal gown over the bride's maid dress. I honestly don't think anyone will be able to tell! (And I actually prefer the BM dress over the bridal gown!) I even know someone who wore what was meant to be a grad/prom dress as their wedding dress! Nobody knew it wasn't an actual bridal gown.

And hey, even if they do know it's not a bridal gown, who cares? I'm sure everyone will still think you look great!

Good luck!

With your 2 examples, I'd likely pick the bridesmaids dress becasue it's probably alot cheaper, and it looks pretty much the same!

They both look nice but I think they're still formal. Have you tried Ann Taylor or White House Black Market for really informal dresses? Otherwise I think they're great.

They both look beautiful to wear as wedding dresses. I've seen many wedding dresses with this style and they are gaining in popularity. Congrats.

I like the second dress much better than the first. The first dress looks like an old women would wear it. Go with the second

The first dress is a bit more fancy than the second but I prefer the second one because its not extremely white and i like the layering thing it has going on.
