Her development sounds perfect for her age. Second children tend not to talk as early as their older siblings did because they don't need to as much, mom, dad, and the older sib meet their needs before they have to say anything. I believe the mark is 50 words by 2, but as long as your daughter is trying to speak and you can get a good guess at what she is saying, she's doing fine. My older son has always been much too far ahead of the curve and it was a little distressing when his little brother didn't feel the need to talk (he said nearly 100 words by 18 months, but he would only say them once then he wouldn't ever say them again). He has since decided that talking is kinda fun and I am very relieved. Babies give us no end of worries. Best wishes.

My son (29 months) is a talker and her sister is (16 months) and there isn't a word that she doesn't say. She speaks in sentences and I think that having an older sibling is good for her. Her vocabulary is about 70 words or so. I mean she will say anything you say. Repeats everything you say, etc. The doctor said her communication is way above average. So I would say at 19 months you child is probably doing just fine.

RE:
What is a normal 19 month old vocabulary?
Our parents as teachers lady always asks how many words my DD has in her vocabulary. We have missed the past 2 meetings because of scheduling issues on both sides. She turned 19 months on the 11th. Approximately how many words should an average 19 month old say? She repeats(tries her best anyway)...

That's fine. Most 1/5 to 2 yos can put together 2 to 3 word sentences. I think knowing 70 words is a lot for that age.
I read a couple of other answers. I thought you meant she knows 70 different words. At 2 they say they should be able to put together 2-3 word sentences, "hi, mommy" for example. Some kids just don't talk for a while, though.

My son is the same age and repeats everything I would say his vocabulary is around the same and he beginning to put 2 words together. He has a sister that talks all the time to and i think it has helped him learn language. If you are truly concerned i would call the doctor.

It all depends on the baby. My son could say about 50 words at that age but my nephew says maybe 10 words and he's 19 months right now. Different docs/books/education will tell you different things. Ask your pediatrician if your child is on track

70 words is lot for a child her age! That's fabulous! I think that at 18 months old they say 30 or so....maybe I'm wrong, but it's a lot lower than your baby. Don't worry about her talkng....my son is the same way and my daughter has picked up a lot from him and talks nonstop..they both talk nonstop! Sounds like she's doing great!

Hmm... I think 70 isn't quite enough. My daughter was saying a lot more words than that when she was 19 months. Maybe you should take her to a speech therapist.
