Neither of his nicknames for you is particularly original or appealing. Calling each other by a shortened version of your own names can be much more appealing, as can using your middle names or initials.
Using nicknames like baby or hon or sweetums is a way to not have to remember the name of the person you are with.

Just call him by his name. As a guy, I don't like cute names. They tend to come up at the wrong time.

It is something intimate that must be born of a moment between you two. It's own little story, and everytime you refer the nickname, you bring back that moment.
Insight, my wife often calls me "birdpoop". But the story is just between us. As any nickname and story should remain just between you 2.

and then just random names
don't ask me how we came up with these names because i couldn't tell you. My ex and I had diff. names for each other so i mean it is however you two act with each other and your personality's.

Me and my friends call our boyfriends things like : - my boy - gorgeous - my prince - babes - baby - sweetie - lovely - honey - cutie - handsome Haha so there are many names you can call you're boyfriend that are v cute and they will guarantee to make him smile :)

It all depends on if your guy is into that. Some guys are ok with it, others hate it, and some only like it when it's used between the two of you, not around anyone else (like his buds- bad idea). I used to call a guy I dated bub, and bubaroo. He liked it.
