She needs to go to the hospital asap. High blood pressure can cause fluid to build up on the body and it can cause a heart attack too. She needs to keep taking her meds and not stop them again. High blood pressure is not something to play with. Please take her soon.

Yes, she should go to the hospital. Fluid retention can be a lot of things, including congestive heart failure or kidney failure. She needs to get her blood pressure back under control and to stay on her medications. She may need a diuretic. She may need potassium supplements. She may need surgery. Edema (swelling) is caused by multiple things and many are dangerous. Only a doctor can figure it out.

Go to the Doctor! Not to scare you, but my wife's Grandfather experienced that the last year or two before he died. His feet would get swollen (yes, he was on medication also) and they kept thinking it was different things, until they realized that he just had a weak heart -- perhaps not strong enough to circulate blood throughout body, or maybe some blockage. That led to the "pins and needles" feeling in his feet.

It COULD be the medication. That NEEDS to be taken every single day to be effective. The problem is, knowing what it MIGHT be is not going to help. She may very well be in danger and only an experienced medical person can tell that. GET HER HELP NOW!

"All possible things" is a lot of things. But many of them are quite serious. Your mother needs to go to the hospital as soon as possible -- taking her medication now will not necessarily fix whatever is now going on. She needs medical care.

Absolutely get off your computer, grab ALL her medication bottles and take them and her to the ED. She needs diuretics and monitoring. Call her doctor from the hospital and update her/him.

IMMEDIATELY............ Urgent care, Doctor, ER.
Hypertension doesn't normally cause swelling, but there's definately something abnormally that needs looked at.
She needs to have a venogram to check for clots or something causing edema. (swelling).
