Jesus didn't teach a morality that is too tough to follow. It is impossible to follow. That's the whole point! Nothing we can do in our flesh can please God. That is why we need a Savior.
And, Jesus didn't come to make people moral. He came to save people from their sins. When one receives Him as Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit comes in, and changes our hearts. We no longer live for self, but Jesus and others instead.
A by-product of this heart change is that we begin to conform to His likeness, and as a result become more moral.
The real issue, however, is that our sin has been dealt with. We then have communion with God.

I think people as a whole are just unwilling to follow Jesus. I know of a person that said not to pray for salvation for her becuase she didn't want to surrender herself to the Lord. She wants to party and drink and do dope and do whatever else. They think it's fun. But they don't see the "big picture" for lack of better wording. They dont' see how their lives are torn to pieces and how nothing goes right and how they really have no true peace. But one day they will. But I do believe it's just people's unwillingness to serve God and do that which is right.

The sermon on the Mount has exceedingly high standards. However, in the christian life we are only meant to live up to the standards through "living in the spirit". This means being endued with strength, wisdom, goodness of all sorts through our union with Christ (a supernatural thing you'd have to be a christian to know, and be able to enjoy). Also being 'born again' means your core identity is recreated. Our salvation is paid for by Jesus' sacrifice to provide right standing with God. It might be possible to lose salvation imo, but only if one gives up on God; even then God is always willing to take back 'backslidders'. Anyone genuinely saved will always have the Holy Spirit encouraging them towards right living.

No! Not at all. Revelation proves his teachings are proper and correct. John talks about a great sea of people who have washed their robes in the blood of the lamb. An uncountable number from all the ages.

It is possible, but only by the dehumanising complete subjugation of self. Almost without exception, people are quite reasonably unwilling to go that far.
I don't think it's a fair or reasonable thing to ask of people.

We can follow it with God's help, but most people are just unwilling to follow (many will not even try).

We are weak, but Jesus died for our sins. We don't have to be perfect, we just have to be committed to Him.
John 17:3 "And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
That is the only requirement to receive eternal life in heaven with the Father and His Son.

I think we are able to follow His examples and teachings if we have Him in our heart and we have a relationship with Him. It is not always easy, simple or understandable, but it is possible. I have made mistakes and fallen many times but I know that He forgives and is waiting for me to come back to Him...no matter what. E-mail me if you have more questions.

It is possible. But you have to be willing to give up all sinful things which give you pleasure. Giving up those sinful things is what makes it seem so impossible because you may like those sinful things so much. But when you actually realize how serious sin is and how awful it will be for hose who are not saved, then it is very easy to change your ways.
