As some of you may know, I have been getting close to another user on here, we have been seeing each other and he is a wonderful man, but........He's pentacostal, and I just went to one of those services and they really tripped me out. Seizures, spasms, rolling on the floor, gurgling and flummering--I had to leave. I was literally afraid--what do they do to them in there!?!?!? I wanted to cry! He says I don't have to attend his church or anything, and I think what we have is real, but this side of him scares me--do they do this kind of thing at home? Please help!

Good luck sweetie.
I attended an Assembly of God church for about a year. Those fanatics are wacko bigots!
I cannot see you with a pentecostal, I just can't. No way I could.

I have gotten pretty close to a Charisatic girl, and she basically told me point-blank that if I didn't start speaking in tongues, it would never work between us.
Basically, if that kind of thing goes on in their church, I would say get out while you can. It is clearly unbiblical, as God is not the author of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33). He is the God of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. Church services are to be conducted respectfully, and not to be turned into circus acts. In 1 Corinthians 14:19, Paul says that he would rather speak five words that everyone can understand, rather than ten thousand words "in a tongue", so that he can teach others.
The problem I have with modern speaking in tongues is that it's not true Biblical speaking in tongues. To truly speak in tongues, you speak your own language, but other languages are coming out (languages you haven't heard learned). That's why it's speaking in *tongues*, plural. Paul also mentions speaking in "a tongue", which is the gibberish that many Charismatics believe is getting through to God.
Besides, if you get married and have children, wouldn't you want to go to the same church together? I would not advise you to attend a church where these antics are being done.

Well, try to convert him to your denomination and show him that this "speaking in tongues is not the true speaking in tongues (look at Acts 2:4-9. that doesn't sound like anything that these people are doing) If he doesn't convert, then dump him. He should be doing the same thing instead of compromise, for that will not be good. I live in a home in which my mom remarried a person of a different denomination and they are constantly arguing over doctrine.
Hope that helped.
God bless.

They may do it at home, but usually at church or other religious meeting.
What you have described as going on in his church are manifestations of the Holy Ghost working in the person, I think such actions are a result of God dealing with problems in their lives (evil habits, addictions, even demons - and they do not leave quietly).

They don't always do that at home, but the most fervent of them do believe in a deep, abiding relationship with Christ through study and prayer. Don't be frightened. Instead try to understand, for if this man loves you, he will try to teach you slowly so that you can understand. No one can make you convert, not even your husband. But the Bible does say that the husband and the wife can "sanctify" each other if one is an unbeliever, so if you TRY to understand and he UNDERSTANDS you're trying, everything will work out as you include God's word in your relationship more and more.

You do not want to be unequally yoked and married to man who attends a church with such goings-on.
I would seriously question the validity of these "manifestations" and assume they are demonic.
God is not the author of chaos, but of goodness truth beauty and order in worship.
TRUE speaking in tongues has virtually cease. It served its purpose in the early Church and now is rarely seen.

Beats me, I have never gone to a home of a Pentecostal. I dated an ex-Pentecostal who had such issues I think rolling on the floor would have helped him. UPTIGHT!

You guys should convert to mormonism and get sealed. it'll be better for both of you. Pretty soon, you'll even forget about all of the inconsistencies.
