Does he have a pitchfork?

Or is the devil only a fictional character to get people to "straighten their act" to your preference.

Well I think that he is just as real as a Leprechaun, however as a former Christian, I used to believe that he was out to get me.

I finally realized that if he is real, then he is much more powerful than God, because he has successfully created religions that completely contradict each other, and that will lead a large majority of people to an eternity in Hell, and God is powerless to do anything about it.

Either that or God doesn't care about those people who are being deceived and will let the devil have them.

It is allot easier to look at the lack of evidence and realize that the forked wonder probably isn't real.

The devil is real. And no he doesn't have a pitchfork. The Bible tells you he was the most beautiful angel God created. That is why he gets by with so much becuase people are expecting this horrible creature with a forked tongue and a pitchfork. Their not expecting something beautiful and sly. But that's what the devil is sly as a fox. The word says he's out to steal, kill and destroy. And that's exactly what he does.

I think the devil can be used to represent the evil that humans are capable of doing. As far as the pitchfork goes I guess if a crazy person was doing some evil stuff while carrying a pitchfork....

I think that the evil represented by the devil is very real. I don't believe that Satan is a concious entity except in an individuals mind. Some people are missing something in their minds that makes them fit in with the rest of humankind.
Were BTK, Dalmer, Gacy, Bundy driven by Satan or by some extreme mentality? Is messed up thinking the result of the Devil? Doubtful.

Satan was just another angel (see the Book of Job) until some Hebrews were forced to live in Babylon under the Captivity. While they were there, they learned about Zoroastrianism, where there was a good god (Ahura Mazda) and an evil god (Ahriman or Angra Mainyu) who were in constant conflict with each other.

Zoroastrian myth says that the final conflict will be won by Ahura Mazda (Judgement Day). When the Hebrews returned to their home, they brought these new concepts with them.

Yes, I think Satan is used as a boogeyman to keep us in line.

Some people believe in the Devil. As far as him being red and carrying a pitch fork, I am not sure. I picture him as the guys off little Nicky, sticking a pineapple up Hitler's rear! (seriously)

** If you believe in Good (God) then it only make sense I suppose to have an Evil (Devil) Like ying and yang. Two oppsites.

If the devil is real, he does not wear a red stretch outfit or carry a pitchfork...this would give him away...if he is real he looks like anyone else.

By "devil" do you mean the most beautiful angel, created by the Christian god, who turned against god, thus was sent out of heaven to a fiery pit, where he became ruler?

Everyone has to decide these sorts of things on their own. But let's think about this...

According to the Bible, God created Lucifer as the most beautiful angel only to later cast him out of heaven for misconduct. Of course, God knew this would happen, he's omnipotent and omniscient. Instead of avoiding the creation of Lucifer or destroying him, thus, the ruler of all evil and temptation, God created Hell for Lucifer to govern. Why would God do this? Because he needed to create 'evil' so that the human race would be able to differentiate between good and evil, and then with their God-given free will, choose. Why not create a perfect 'heaven on earth' for the human race with no evil? An eternal Garden of Eden? Because God, the all-powerful, wants us to "choose" him over evil. Why? Ironically, God has an inferiority complex. He needs to feel loved or he becomes genocidal. Now, if you don't choose "Him," then God sends you to live with Lucifer in Hell (all of which god created) for your eternal suffering and Lucifer's satisfaction. Oh...and all of the above happened because God loves you.

No, the devil is not real, not in Christianity or any other religion.

The devil is very real. The pitchfork crap is just a way to make him appear less real, and therefore, less scary.
