When Muslim women cover their hair and wear loose clothes people say...
they are "oppressed". in fact they are obeying the orders of their Lord to be modest, not cultural or social mores. and when, Christian nuns cover their hair out of modesty, yet no one considers them “oppressed”. By following the command of Allaah, Muslim women are doing the exact same thing.

Sometimes, people see covered Muslim women and they think of this as oppression. This is wrong. A Muslim woman is not oppressed, in fact, she is liberated. This is because she is no longer valued for something material, such as her good looks or the shape of her body. She compels others to judge her for her intelligence, kindness, honesty and personality. Therefore, people judge her for who she actually is.

The Prophet , once said to a group of Companions : "The best among you are those who are the best to their wives." This shows that Islam highly encourages treating the wives well. They should be shown love, respec

I see nothing wrong with the way Islamic women dress. Feminist started that whole thing- I applaud them for sticking to their beliefs no matter what people say.

The difference is this:

If a nun chooses not to wear the habit, no harm will come to her, no one will look down on her or treat her poorly. I know many nuns for whom the formal habit would get in the way, and they wear modest, but modern, street clothing (tshirts without slogans, jeans, etc).

If a muslim woman in some countries goes without the veil, she is viewed as an adulterous wh*re, evil and disgusting, and subject to persecution, and is viewed as begging to be raped.

In countries where the veil is not culturally required (such as the USA), I find the veil is a symbol of religious devotion, and I respect it. But in countries where it is required by law? It's oppression, plain and simple.

Hijabs are not oppressive, as far as the woman is not forced into wearing it. As for Burkas and Niqabs (I think they are the Pakistani version of Burka and look like black KKK clothing), that is pretty abusive, and inconsiderate to non-muslims as they are slightly unnerving attire, frankly. Sometimes the lady in question may be making an angry statement, I've seen flashes of hatred in the eyes of people wearing those things; I can't respect that.

it is not the wearing of clothing that people view as oppressive, it is the treatment of muslim women in muslim countries that is viewed as such. it is the punishments, the marital rights, the ownership of women that are the issue, not covering the head.

I agree that modesty should be encouraged by all religions. A woman's body should be respected.

But modesty and chastity should be found in men, too, not just women.
