any doctor will tell you that you shouldn;t worry about what happened before you knew you were pregnant. Odds are the baby will be fine as long as she stops drinking now, but unfortunately there is no 100% positive way to know until the child is born. FAS can be caused by moderate drinking as well, NOT just binge drinking. There are women who have had a few glasses here and there and have a child with FAS, and then women who drank through the whole thing and have a perfectly normal child, it's all a crap shoot unfortunately. She did the right thing by quitting as soon as she found out she was pregnant, it is the only thing she could do. Congrats on the new baby.

There shouldn't be a problem because she did not drink constantly. Fetal alcohol syndrome is caused by excessive drinking not occasional drinking. I drank for the first 3 months with my first because I had no idea that I wa pregnant and everything turned out fine. I wouldn't worry about it.

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome occurs when there is drinking throughout the pregnancy. There are other, not as well known, alcohol related syndromes that can occur even when the drinking occured in the first trimester. This is because the brain develops in the first semester. If she wasn't drinking heavily, hopefully everything will be allright.

The baby should be fine, I too had a few drinks before finding out that I was pregnant with my first child and now he is a healthy happy 8 year old. But now that she knows that she's pregnant make sure she doesn't drink anymore and be sure to make the doctor aware, just in case.

If she has been drinking only moderately and she quit as soon as she found out then I'm sure that everything is going to be fine. Most babies born with FAS are born to mothers who drink heavily throughout their pregnancy. I had one surprise pregnancy and I know that I had a few drinks before I knew I was pregnant and I had a very healthy baby.

The baby should be fine, I had a couple of drinks before I knew I was pregnant and my daughter came out beautiful and healthy. Make sure she stays away from alcohol, drugs, and cigarettes during the remainder of her pregnancy and takes care of herself (eating healthy, exercising, etc.) Congratulations!!!

I found out I was pregnant just after New Years :). I didn't drink for the rest of my pregnancy and now I have a very smart 3yr old. She should be fine.

the sooner she quits the better. we don't know how much alcohol will cause FAS, but many women drink (and do much worse) before the discover thay are pregnant, and have healthy babies. As long as she is clean now, gets good heath care and takes care of herself things will likely be fine

What I hear said most often is what you did before you knew you were pregnant doesn't count. As long as she has stopped and doesn't any more for the rest of the pregnancy the baby will be fine.

Good that she stop, because u not suppose to drink a lot when u pregnant. But don't worry so much, i was drinking and smoking when i find out that I'm pregnant, i was 7 weeks pregnant. I start drinking less, but i was still smoking. When i was almost 3 month i stop smoking at all and my doctor told me not to drink to, just sometimes.
Ur girl can drink a glass of vine or champagne ones in 2,3 weeks. Vodka or beer not good or any other hard drinks.
But it's better i Ur girl don't drink at all it's really not good.
