Well it depends. M bikes you can use them on any surface or track. now road bikes are really cool to ride on the street. They are smooth, and you don't need a lot of leg power to go relatively fast. Go for a cheap one, nothing fancy until you are sure you want to ride frequently. I'm going to sound like your mother, but...wear a helmet there some cool ones by Bell, Giro, Fox. Good luck and enjoy!

I would recommend a hybrid bike (not sure what they are called in the states) it is in between a road bike and a mountain bike - it requires alot less effort than a mountain bike, but will cope with the trail. A hybrid is not really suitable for off trail riding.

I recommend you go to a bike shop and get fitted. Tell them where you'll be riding and how often. They will be able to set you up on the best bike for your build that fits your budget. No matter which bike you end up with, fit is CRUCIAL to comfort. Make sure you don't buy a bike at a discount place like WalMart or Target. The bike shop people will def be able to help you make the best decision.
Good luck!

Definately a mountain bike, comfort bikes are for flat streets only
and If you buy a comfortable seat, the mountain bike becomes a comfort bike.

Mountain bike, you'll appreciate the improved handling. Comfort bikes are made for old people and people that hardly ever ride bikes and wont notice the heavy frame and poor manouverability.
