They are the typical do gooders but they aren't there when I need them. Then when they are they make it seem like they are sooo helpful. How can I let them know how I feel without hurting their feelings?

You can't make everyone happy. I finally quit trying with my in-laws. I don't care anymore there is only so many times that you can try before you stop trying. (at least in my case) I wasn't blessed with the worlds greatest in-laws, as a matter of fact I have your "sterotypical" in laws, right down to the fact that they don't like me because I only gave them granddaughters and not grandsons. Oh well - just grin and bear it. I always try and remember that I love my husband and would do anything for him so I try my best around his parents for his sake not mine.

This may be a battle you may not want to fight. I understand that can be an annoying habit of theirs. Thank them when they help you and keep your distance from them when you do not need to be around them.

They are hypocrites and you can tell them when you have specifics. Just state your case, no emotion, just factual examples.
