It *may* depend upon your computer and not upon XP. On my IBM Thinkpad, for example, it is described by the manufacturer to be a "feature" that the cursor "drifts" until the keypad has warmed up. (In my experience, the keypad never warms up unless I use it for an unusually long time.) My HP cursor suddenly jumps to odd parts of the screen in response to odd touches and I have to readjust the keypad settings *just so* (because of my clumsy palm...I am a true klutz, ya know, and the HP touch pad is extremely sensitive)

those darn mice! now and returned I even have this concern (very uncommon) and rebooting could help. Double verify the relationship for playstation /2 and usb mouse varieties. If it is an optical mouse, ascertain you spot the mild on the backside to point the mouse is receiving power. If it particularly is a usb mouse, attempt utilising a distinctive usb port if accessible. attempt utilising the mouse on yet another pc to verify the mouse nonetheless works. there is lots that is incorrect that it isn't hassle-free to record each and everything, yet you may attempt to make specific you have all updates for XP (if it particularly is a no longer a typical elementary mouse, ascertain you have the drivers for XP), in case you may navigate via homestead windows utilising the keyboard (tab and enter key once you get the place you choose to be) then get into your administration panel and double verify your settings for the mouse.

the mouse is doing what is called homing. go to control panel/mouse/pointer options tab and then go to the box that says snap to and uncheck it. this will stop this from happening.
