If you are doing it in your own house for home improvement, probably not (depending on local code). If you want to make a living at it doing it full-time, yes. As well as contractor's insurance!

Most people will not hire you unless you are licensed, bonded and insured. Insurance will also protect you in case something happens in a house that is your fault.
