I am a SAHM and I do a lot. I am a day care provider, chef, taxi, maid, and personal shopper. My payment.....getting to see my daughter grow up and have a one on one relationship with her that is priceless. I think it would be great if they gave us like 20K a year to help with added expenses. See I am not a college grad. I am a hair stylist but that's about it and almost all of the "make money on the internet scams" are just that. Scams. If I went into the working field I would spend all of my earnings on daycare and gas, so what's the point? What's so wrong with giving American families extra money a year to help them out. They give millions away to welfare so why not help us? What do you think?

Ok I'm not saying I should get paid, I am saying that it would be nice. Don't you people ever fantasize? Calm down. I am just saying that in today's society you need two incomes to make it. I'll sacrifice whatever I have to to be with my daughter. Can't people make an innocent comment without people saying, "Well you had the kid, you chose to be a parent, blah blah blah." Ladies, wouldn't it be nice to get to be at home doing what you love and actually be able to save for a vacation or a new tv or whatever else you may desire? Don't people wish they could win the lottery? Same thing.

Oh and nancy I hope that my child will respect me because I put my family first. Not material things. Oh and what if it's not finacially possible for me to go to college? Does that make me a deadbeat mom? Ok, ya why don't I go to work in the evenings so that I don't spend anytime with my husband and my marriage goes to sh*t. Ya, that would great.

Ya know, I never really thought about that but as a SAHM I would have to agree. I am at home with 4 of my kids (other 2 are in school) and it would be nice. But, I guess we will have to settle for the payment being made in hugs and kisses, which makes it worth it anyway!!!

One other thing I didn't see mentioned... Even if the government only agrees to pay for the parent to stay home for the first 1-5 years of the child's life, what's to stop the parents from having another child within that time period to continue the benefit? And then another child and so on? And then what happens when the support stops? Will those children live in poverty because they were planned based on government money? How would such a situation work in cases of single parents? Or is it okay for both parents to stay home? Or what about same-sex marriages? Or adoption? How can such a law even be applied fairly? The other side may argue that having a stay-at-home parent is beneficial to society because children will have more stability, which will result in children who are better prepared for school, which then results in adults who are better educated and less likely to commit crime or live off welfare.

I think being a SAHM is the single most important job in the world. Children who grow up in a family where one of the parents were able to stay home to raise them grow to be more productive members of society on a whole. The government should definitely offer an incentive to SAHM.

Our country is already in huge debt.Who would pay you?I am a hairsylist ( 33 years).Do hair at home !Or work at night when your husband gets home, like from 5:00 - 9:00 and on weekends. To this day,my daughter is 27- ,But my favorite day to work is Sat.!! I think it's such a habit from Beauty School and always working when my husband could be home.I'm the type thay enjoys the atmosphere of the salon. It is good to get out and bring something home-your kid will respect u more later.

That's part of being a parent, the sacrifices youmake and for atleast a few years some of us have to sacrifice a career outside of the home. Plus, how would the government gage how good of a job you are doing so that they may pay accordingly.
Yes it would be great to get money for what I am doing, but we are also saving money by being home so maybe it balances out somehow.

welfare is for people who have no other choice. You chose to be a sahm (as did I), don't demean the most important job in the world by comparing it to other careers. Parenting is not a something you get a salary for, its a lifestyle you take on with love, knowing that there are no material rewards, just th joy of watching your kids grow into the adults you hope they will be.

having a child was your choice... You shouldn't get paid for getting the joy of being a mother. Its the most wonderful feeling ever, having someone who loves you and you get to raise however you choose. That's just part of life!!! If you can afford to stay at home then do so... enjoy every moment with your child while they are still young but if your not financially able to support you both without working go back to school and get a good paying job.

I agree with you 100%! I want to be a SAHM, but can't afford to be one. My husband just graduated from college and is working his way up quickly. We are ready to start a family, but I can't afford to quit my job just yet. If SAHM would get an allowance that would be awesome! So many illegals and idiots eat off welfare and all that so why can't people who are legit and working hard get that little boost of help?

It would be nice to get paid so I could not have to worry about my daughters college tuition ect. The money I would make I would save up on her or use to go to the zoo, or diapers, ect. That would be very nice :D Never going to happen, I loev staying at home with my baby, no amount of money would ever make me leave her and go to work, but it sure would be nice to be paid haha or win the lottery :D

That's the greatest idea I've heard all year!! I am also a SAHM. And 20K would sure be helpful. It could help pay for sports activities, college savings, "snacks" for their friends when they come over, etc. I'm with you mama.
