I was accused of getting a young lady pregant around 22 years ago. I have not had any contact with this lady for over 22 years and I don't even know her residence or full name. Therefore I'm just trying to figure out if I could be potentially liable for anything after a child has reached the age of 21.

I would think that in over 20 years if she went to the court system to prove paternity and to get an order for support, you would have been contacted!! Even the way our judicial system lacks speed, I'm thinking she raised the child on her own without any help from you...or maybe she didn't know your full name either or where you resided??

Back child support depending on the state. Which you would deserve since you were told 22 years ago and you checked out.

You would also likely be liable for the child's hatred at never making an attempt to be a father.

Way to go.

I am not a lawyer, but I don't think you would be liable for expenses of the child after age 21, but you might still be liable for expenses that came up during the pre-21 years. You might want to talk with a lawyer and assess your situation.

Possibly, especially if she was ever on Government aide during anytime from the ages of birth to 18 years old (the Government may want it's $$$ back); also, if you were in any of the Armed Forces, the child may be eligible for special grants/scholarships offered to children of "Vets"; and when inheritance comes up, they may be able to sue and get some of the family "monies"; First off, get a paternity test!

I would say it's rather doubtful that anyone is going to be coming after you at this point. If the child was receiving welfare, the state might have some interest in recouping funds, but otherwise, it sounds as if the woman and child have moved on. It's unfortunate that you didn't step up and support your child and get to be a part of his/her life, however. You've missed out on a great opportunity.

well you could owe back support for the first 18 years of her life, but if no one has contacted you and you are not on the birth certificate, which you would have signed, i don't think you have to worry, if they have not contacted you in 22 years i don't think they will, but wouldn't you want to know your child
